Hi Everyone
I've been looking for a group in the County Durham of North East England area specifically with a leaning towards Adult ADHD/ADD without much success. Does anyone know of a support group or sorted person in the area worth visiting?
Regards
Jamie

Hi, I too live in County Durham and have had trouble looking for a support group. As far as i know the nearest 1 is in Gateshead.

Hi Sophie
Sorry I don't know of any adult support groups in the N/E. However I am in touch with someone who has been through the Nothumberland Tyne & Wear NHS Trust pilot clinic. We both live in and about the Newcastle area so it wouldn't be impossible to meet up.
I see you have recently been dx. Do you mind if I ask was this through the Tees and Esk MHT? Maybe we should be asking both Trusts to facilate the setting up of an Adult support group in the N/E.
Anyway lovely to have you on board!

Hi Sophie
Thanks for getting back. I don't know much about the clinic at Tees Esk MHT - I'm assuming it's run by Dr M Edwin. If you have more info, it would certainly be good to know.
I'll get in touch with the other person I know up here and see if we can arrange a meet up in the New Year.
I've just noticed the advert above this post which refers to "Annie, the dark child"!! Don't think they're talking about me.

Hi sophie
I will contact you about meeting up. If you want to send me a pm and say roughly where you live we can think up "half way" meeting place.
See you in the New Year

Hey! Was just recently diagnosed (2 weeks ago) by Dr Edwin as well. I saw him at the County Hospital in Durham though.
I'm pretty sure he told me it was a fairly new service and in 2 months he has taken on just over 100 patients (he did give the exact figure but my memory fails hard) so i'm suprised more people haven't found their way here. Reminds me I have to get around to phoning up to make an appointment for therapy.

Hello Diab
Therapy, eh? I'd like to hear more about that as it unfolds, I've not been offered any.

Hi diab
Lovely to have another member up here in the North East - do you want to be included in our meet up in the New Year?
Just a word about Dr Edwin ( I've never actually met him) Several years ago I was furiously "surfing" to find out more about Adhd - both my children had just been dx. I came across an article he had written in the ? British Journal of Psychiatrists. If I remember correctly he had sent out a questionnaire to a lot of ? Adult/Child psychiatrists to learn their views about using the ICD-10/DSM IV as a diagnostic tool for the identification of Adhd. The results of his survey led him to conclude most psychiatrists used ICD-10 which is a much narrower diagnostic tool and only identifies the most severe form of Adhd. Consequently those people who fell below the threshold but had significant impairment, were unlikely to receive treatment.
There was an e-mail address on his article and I wrote to him several times to ask various questions and he very kindly took the time to reply. How many psychiatrists would do that - I could have been anyone??!! When I realised he was running a clinic in the Durham area I e mailed his secy. and again he responded by signing our petition. So I think you are fortunate to have someone in your area who is not afraid to engage with the wider world. I'm sure he will do much to raise the profile of adult Adhd with his fellow psychiatrists in the Trust.
It does sound as though he would be supportive to you setting up your own local support group. Now may not be the right time for you to take this on - you've just been dx and maybe you want to spend your time coming to grips with that. However he might be willing to put you in touch with someone else who he's recently seen - just for a bit of moral support.
Never mind - let me know if you want to join our "meet up" and thanks again for coming on the forum

Hi Diab
If you pm me to say where you live then I can work out where might be a central place.
Like planetdave I'd be very interested to hear what kind of therapies you might be offered. It would be great to hear your local clinic has been properly funded.
