Re timezone - it would be preferable to set the forum default to be GMT+1 (to save people having to set it themselves). This appear to be in General Settings > "Default Time zone" according to the help.

Just read this cover article from Susan: "Anyway, I've now climbed out of the bog, shaken off the mud, and I'm job hunting (thank God for ADHD resilience).
I don't want much; just a job that pays well, where I have the freedom to think, to generate ideas, and where somebody else takes care of the admin work. I don't want a boss who stands by the door with a stopwatch just because I'm late by ten minutes, but I do want a boss who gives constructive feedback. I don't want a job where I have to sit at a desk all day, but I do want a job that is intellectually stimulating. I don't want to work in an atmosphere of gossip and innuendo (I can't keep secrets, and I misinterpret signals), but I do want to work in a team that is cheerful and cooperative.
So if anybody hears of a job like that, could you let me know, and I'll do the same for you.
S
Response: "Have you been successful in your job hunt? I am looking for the same job in Dallas, TX. If I find one that matches that description I will let you know." Alice in Dallas

Hi tomoc, Welcome to the forum I too take concerta, but haven't had insomnia with it although I think I read somewhere that's a fairly common side effect. How early in the morning do you take it? Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hi Roland Thank you for your reply I usually take 2 pills around 8 in the morning and 1 about 10 O'Clock or so on my tea break. I have a week of work as of yesterday so not sleeping all night isn't a problem. But as you can probably understand lack of sleep + ADHD + work stress isn't the best combination. but saying that the med's are helping i can watch full movies now yeah lol Thanks again

Ive been off work for 3 months after complety breaking down again. But this time i wanted real answerts and was determined to9 find them. My doctor prescribed me 18mg sr conceta ive been on this one week and have had to been weaned of anti depressant drug i was previously taking. Im confussed fruu7strated and hurt, my self esteem is low but its the lowest its ever been. Hi Vicky
Very pleased to have you on the forum!!
As many people on here will testify struggling with undiagnosed Adhd can have a devastating effect on self esteem. Some people find it helpful to have the diagnosis as it offers an explanation for the many things which have proved so difficult- just organising yourself through the day- day living tasks.
The Nice guidance does recommend medication as a first line of treatment for adult Adhd, however it also recommends psychological help as well - have you been offered any kind of therapy?
Again really pleased to have you on the forum - I'm sure you'll find everyone very supportive.

hey vicky,
good to have you on the forum! it's fantastic to hear you've finally got a diagnosis! ;D
concerta has helped literally millions of people around the world. so you're certainly on the right track!
you've clearly had a tough time recently, how long was it for you between comming off the anti-depressants and starting on concerta?
for many people there's a period of adjustment after you get diagnosed, where you're forced to reassess much of your life... this can be quite upsetting, but in the end, you'll come out with a much better understanding of yourself, your strengths & weaknesses and the reason why your past happened the way it did!
(i guess that's a pretty big promise, but it's certainly the way it happened for me!)
i guess the feeling shaky and emotional is more down to the anxiety of finding yourself in this situation. you're gonna need a little while, to get used to being one of us ADHD types! ;D
chat soon
-matt ;D

I was told by pyschiatrist to reduce dose of venfaxine from 150mgslow release to 75mg and take it same time as concerta for a week after that stop taking venflaxine. This is my first day without venfaxine and im in week two of concerta.
Feel shaky, depressed, tearful and stressed ive been asleep most of day. Is this normal, im usually bubbly the last few months have totally threw me.
Thanx for your positive words of encouragment
Vicky

hello vicky firstly a very big welcome to the forum. i dont know if some of how you are feeling may be to do with coming off of the anti-d's, it might have a bearing at least, (maybe). but it is very normal to feel a bit disoriented and confused when first getting the dx and as matt says, go through a bit of an adjustment period. i had known about adhd for some time and thought that the dx was just dotting the i's and crossing the t's. not so, when i was first dx, i went through a very low phase and it actually threw me well off kilter, so much more than i ever expected. but being here has made alot of difference, and i hope it will for you too. so please come on in and feel at home and hopefully we can give you that bit of support you look like you could do with right now. hugs, boo x

Hi my doctor diagnosed me with anxiety years ago and ive been on three different types of anxiety medication, but pychiatrist said i wasnt anxious all the time (which im not) and it was a coping mechanisim for adhd. Do you find this?
Ive had lots of jobs since leaving uni and longest is two years? Is this normal?
I also get extremely bored easily and am always starting new things is this a trait?
Also im convinced people think i'm weird and i have low self esteem is this a trait?
Anyone got any coping stratergies? any conselling books that would help. I cajnt quite belive a tablet alone could put all this right.
Perthaps i'm asking to much i just want to do a job and like and feel good about self, whithout feeling i'm fighting againbst world is that too much to ask?
Please help anyone i would appreciate answers

Hi Vicky, Welcome to the forum I'm not at all surprised that you feel the way you do, because you've been through a lot, and getting the diagnosis, in addition to changing meds, probably means that you are now starting the process of reframing your life, and that can mean that angry and hurt feelings can rise to the surface. I know that's the case for me! You're right, it doesn't, the meds help alleviate the symptoms which then can give us the time to work out coping strategies. Which is why the NHS guidelines for treating ADHD say that: I can understand why he would say that because you do have a lot to cope with at the moment, on the other hand one of the ADHD traits is that we want to do everything all at once, so I think he needs to address that aspect as well. So it might be worthwhile asking him to reassess his decision to do things one at a time. don't know how much reading about ADHD you've already done, but we've got a reading list here that might be helpful: www.aadd.org.uk/library&resources/books.htmlAnyway, welcome to the forum Vicky

Hello Vicky! nice to meet you ;D its great here youl love it, and very addictive when you start reading the posts and realise these are people like you! its amazing i thought i was soo alone and different (used to say wierd now say different) but im not, just reading the things on this site and talking about my difficulties that many others seem to have has done wonders for my self esteem and i only found out about ad/hd 3 months ago! and i only found it after googling some of my sons problems, ive been on lots of different anti-deppressants/anxiety pills over the past 10 years and nothing has really worked and then i finnally found this and the penny dropped, and kept dropping ;D im currently seeking a dx so not even sure if it is ad/hd yet, some days im positive, some days i cant seem to beleive that ad/hd is even real (even tho i know it is)because it makes so much sense and fits like a glove (even tho that doesnt make sense ) the longest ive had a job is 11months! and ive finally got to uni (im only 24 but everyone i knew from school went when they were 18) i start next month. sometimes i cry because im so bored and im always starting new things, its just like ive got a restless feeling all the time inside. my self esteem if finally coming, not there yet but im starting to like who i am (most days), i bought a couple of books off ebay sari solden, women with add and Driven to Distraction i think they are really good books but there is lots and lots on the net and this site

Please help anyone i would appreciate answers xxxxxxxxxxx To answer your specific questions Anxiety is common in ADHDers. Lots of jobs? Normal. Bored/starting new things? Normal. Weird/self esteem? Normal. The pills aren't a cure but they should allow you some leeway time to function better - for me they are a great anti depressant and make me thicker skinned and easier to live with and less distractable. Coping strategies? That's a bit of a holy grail. I try to talk to as many ADHDers as possible (in person and online) to get the mutual support. I try not to do things that I know will bother me. It's standard self help - accentuate the positive and diminish the negative. Hang about on here and you'll find that coping is a major topic and laughing together at our common foibles is a great tonic.

Sorry i said weird that was wrong term to use i dont personally think this, nobody is weird unless they are harming others, I think we are unique I like that word better. Itis just the looks i get when i but in when people are talking ( I try to stop I know it's rude but all these ideas pop into my head.
Im gonna stop feeling sorry for myself its really not me, im bubbly and enthusiastic, no matter how many knock backs i've had. These have been mainly job related by the way, which has caused finacial problems for me and my partner.
Ive got a wonderful partner who has stuck it out with me for seven years and about 15 jobs, and he is still here I question this often.
How can we make it easier for our loved ones to cope? Does it cause arguements with your spouses etc?
Anyway thank you all so much you have been very kind.
I would love to meet other adults with ADHD but i live in Dudley in the West Midlands and thete are no support groups around here. Unless anyone knows any or any conferences ?. Please let me know that would be great.
Thank you. xx
ps I hope I can help others the way this site as helped me and I commit to be a regular on here, this site has been invaluable.
