Hi
I haven't posted in a few weeks. I was diagnosed in August and started on Matoride XL (now being used in Sussex instead of Concerta but similar release) at 18mg and told to double to 36mg after 1 week. I didn't feel great and spoke to someone at my ADHD clinic who said to stay on 18mg until next meeting and he would advise 27mg of Concerta instead.
At the meeting last week, my nurse said no, stick with the increase to 36mg. I tried for a couple of days but didn't feel great so dropped back for a day and then continued with the double dose. I feel terrible - manic, speedy, racing thoughts, rambling, grinding teeth etc, just awful. I don't know whether to stop, persevere or what to do. I have left a voice mail at the clinic today but not heard back yet.
Please can anyone tell me if they experienced this or share thoughts?

definitely shouldn't feel like that, if it was me id stop taking it and ring back up and ask to change. No point taking something thats making you feel 10x worse! Really hope you get it sorted

Hi thanks for your reply
I spoke to the nurse and she told me to stop taking it and is going to try me on Elvanse starting this week. Really scared to try another stimulant but also scared not to as I can't cope feeling like I do without any meds. I'm supposed to be interviewing for the job of my dreams in a few weeks but seriously debating not going for it as I'm struggling in my current job.
Anyone had a better experience on Elvanse after taking Concerta or another XL?

Hi mojoI had bad side effects on Concerta and IR mph. .not as bad or the same as yours. . I've just started Elvanse and although I don't notice any improvement in my ADHD, I don't have any side effects. I don't know what it will be like when I increase the dose. Everyone reacts differently, talk to your nurse . .it's got to be worth a try, you don't have to continue with it if you don't like it. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you vagueandrandom
How long have you been on the Elvanse for and do you mind me asking what dose you are taking?
I hope you have some success with it!

Hi mojo I've been taking 30mg Elvanse for 2 weeks and will probably increase after my next appointment with my specialist at the end of the week.

Vagueandrandom, I hope it works for you. My nurse talked about Strattera too but don't think I can face an SNRI as would take ages to get out my system.
I have heard excellent things about Elvanse but after the horrific reaction to the methylphenidate I'm really worried, at least I can stop it if it doesn't agree with me. Just feeling really disheartened, after years of being all over the place - to finally know what is wrong and having the hope of meds was such a relief, but I now feel back to square one. Like there is no hope of ever feeling okay.....

vagueandrandom (no idea if that's how you tag someone!) how are you getting on? Did you increase the dose yet? I started the 30mg yesterday and it was much better for me than the matoride on the first day but guess time will tell.

Hi mojo. Yes! That's how you tag! The pharmacy had to order the Elvanse in, but I'll be going up to 50mg. The Dr was pleased that I wasn't getting any side effects and I didn't notice on/off but my BP was a bit up. .could have been that I was stressed out because I was late because of traffic and me missing the turning. . .and he advised me to cut down on caffiene. . I drink a lot of coffee. .it's going to be hard . . Anyway. .let's try to update our experiences.

Hi vagueandrandomHow are you coping with the increased dose? I have to say I've found this better than the mph, much less side effects although not many notable benefits either. Still procrastinating to the max and generally symptomatic most of the time. Nurse meeting next week to discuss dose.

Hi mojo My head feels like I've had a good night's sleep. .not woolly. .and I'm less generally anxious. .although, due to circumstances, my anxiety has returned, as has my irritability and anger . .no improvement in focus or procrastination, but also no side effects apart from raised BP.

Hi, it's very frustrating when the meds don't work but you were right to go back. I was given one that didn't do much (Tranquilyn), one that worked really well (Equasym) and a different one (Medikinet) that makes me sad, anxious, irritable and agitated! It's your head so keep going til you get what you need. My psych barely knows more than me about it and the GPs I've seen, even less.
