Great article. thanks for sharing. It pretty much sounds like my experience, and couldn't agree more re the emotional stuff. I paid for counselling for 2+ years, convinced that I had low self-esteem due to my parents and being sent away to school when I was younger, it never really did anything. I've also been on sertraline for about 3 years for anxiety and low moods. I have always had a really bad temper and struggled with relationships and hence assuming it was low self esteem, but without sounding like a knob, I actually think reasonably well of myself (when I'm not f*cking things up!!) and sometimes, when I'm in hyperfocus or whatever, I feel like I can do anything.

A lot sounds familiar in that article. Thanks for posting.
I got diagnosed with depression/anxiety when young and ADD later in life and I expect this is the same for a lot of people. Also, I think in past years ADHD, especially in the UK was not diagnosed/understood as much.

I'm so glad something is finally helping! That's pretty much how mph affects me, plus it stops me getting the munchies so much (i.e. helps me lose weight) and it helps me sleep and be less sleepy in the daytime. I experienced a kind of faux-anxiety on mph . .the physical symptoms without the mental prompt, but I know that marionk finds that mph helps with her anxiety. . like everything, everyone reacts differently. . .and often Drs are reluctant to prescribe stims to people with ADHD and anxiety because they think it might make it worse. . It's all about treating the cause and not just the symptoms. . I had that 'faux anxiety' on something I was given when I was worried and depressed many years ago. I shook so much it was scary, and I went to the out of hours service. The doc there was surprised I was given it, as it was known to cause anxiety . . . Actually it didn't make me any more anxious, just gave me a mega dose of the physical symptoms.

Heh, finally got round to reading the article . . . well a goodly chunk of it anyway . . . and it really is good! REALLY good! I've bookmarked it too. Is the emotional stuff always part of it? I know it fits me, but I've seen calls for low self esteem to be included, and that doesn't fit me. I'm like curlylucy in that when I mess things up I scream and want to bash my head against the wall, but I actually have quite a high opinion of myself the rest of the time. I don't have low self esteem, and it's not lack of confidence either; I just know my limitations.
