On another forum I'm on, we have a thread called 'Is Something On Your Mind?' - a thread for all the comments, observations, stories, jokes, statements etc. that we want to say, but probably don't warrant their own thread. I thought I might try it here.
I did have a snippet I was going to start off with... but I forgot what it is.

I was wondering earlier about what an ADHD house-share would be like.

Do any of you ever walk into a room, forget why you're there, look around a bit, see something, think "ahh, that must be why I'm in here" and then proceed to do something with it... only to realise later on that you went into the room for some totally different reason?

Likewise! If I don't get distracted I can usually retrace my steps and figure out why I'm there. Always wondered if it was pre-senile dementia or early onset Alzheimer's - but now I know This may be a snippet too: I put things off, and I expect I'm not alone! "I'll do it later." (not) is almost my battle cry... One of my biggest stresses is seeing all the things I should be doing on my "to do" list - especially the things that have been there for decades. Since diagnosis things have changed a little. Not sure where I saw it (Pinterest?) but it was the 'OHIO' thing (Only Handle It Once) I don't know why but its kinda stuck in my head and there's been a few times recently where I've replied straight away to an email, or put that thing away or whatever. And Miracle of Miracles when you do a thing you can cross it off your list!!!!!!! Maybe its just the latest exciting brain-fad but I'm hoping I can build on this.

I have no idea if things are getting better or not, but I feel like my recent DX has given me some room to acknowledge why things are the way they are, and that I can attempt to get on with things rather than worry and frustrate myself as to why. Most of my days are still spent being distracted and disorganised, albeit with maybe a 10% improvement in those aspects.

Anyway, my snippet:
I went to the gym tonight for the first time in two or three weeks. I lasted about twenty minutes. The music in there seemed to get louder and was even more noticeable whilst listening to my own music. It made me grumpy, I asked the gormless staff member if the music had been turned up - he said it hadn't, and that he couldn't turn it down. So I gave up and left. It's so frustrating. I just want to listen to my own music (at a reasonably safe volume) and get on with my session. I'm desperately trying to find a gym without music, but they seem to be non-existent.

Still no closer to resuming the gym. It's been nearly two months since I was last there on a regular basis. Euuuugh. Getting back to it is going to be soul-destroying.

Gym and running are on my list too! I got really into it a couple of years ago. Can't seem to get started again. But I'll never give up trying! My snippet: just started CBT. We are going to focus on anxiety and avoidance. I'm motivated but this is going to push soooooo many buttons. Apparently the trick is to notice wrong thinking in the lead up to avoidance and substitute something more reasoned. Simples How to unravel the difference between behaviours caused by ADHD (hopefully better with medication) vs the 'coping strategies' and other habits formed by a lifetime of failure (hopefully treatable with CBT/ skills training)?

When should a 'snippet' be a new thread?
When is it OK to resurrect ancient threads? I've been berated for doing it before on other fora - never really sure why except there seems to be some unwritten internet forum law?

I suppose when you expect it to be a specific point of discussion; a snippet is otherwise just putting out a comment, sharing something or making casual conversation. There's no hard and fast rule, of course - a snippet can provoke a discussion. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with necro'ing old threads - especially if they're relevant or can be added to - but I know it's taboo on some forums.

If I ever write a book or make a website about successfully being an adult with ADHD, I'm going call it 'ADulting in High Definition' (or just 'ADulting in HD').

Exercise is one of my none-negotiable habits I’m forming. I think I’ve found what I can stick to. I’ve got a rowing machine in my room. My own music. An exercise mat, and a few other bits of fitness equipment. My brain is the only obstacle which can stop me now and I’m winning in this area at the moment. It helps that the benefits are very real and noticeable.

I've got weights, but can I ever be arsed to use them? No.
I'd like to get a treadmill and cross-trainer, but there's nowhere to put them. A shame, as I reckon I'd get a lot of use out of them.
