I have just received a letter from Hull Clinical Commissioning Group which informs me that since summer 2017 they have started to commission an adult ADHD service for assessment/diagnosis and treatment on a patient by patient basis from Humber NHS Foundation Trust. Hull GPs can refer individuals to this service.
This is the first I have heard of it and haven't heard from anyone who has used it. It didn't exist at the end of June 2017 when I made a PALS enquiry. It took a letter from my MP to get this response. I have been trying to get treatment for 2 years and am still going through the complaints system. The CCG knows this and didn't think to let me know. I do hope they've employed a specialist and are not still sending people to the general psychiatrist they sent me to before who 'can' prescribe meds (as long as it's 3x10mg IR mph) and told me it wouldn't benefit me to treat my ADHD as he thought I had an emotionally unstable personality disorder (I tried to tell them that my emotional instability was due to ADHD) and was offered antidepressants. My BP wasn't taken before being prescribed stimulants, or monitored afterwards and the side-effects I reported were ignored and I was discharged.
I started an ADHD support group in Hull over a year ago and have spoken to a lot of people who have been told there is no service and a few who have seen the abovementioned psychiatrist and have had similar experiences.
I would welcome reviews from anyone who has experienced this new service including ease of referral, waiting times and quality of service.
I intend to ask my GP to refer me.
