Hi guys,
I have just been started on Methyphenidate.
My psych reckons it is important to take exactly the same dose every day regardless of needs (I have inattentive type and if I'm just chilling, I don't really need the meds).
I had a bit of a look on the interweb and I can see that some psychs think its OK to take these meds on demand.
If there's anyone out there who just takes them as and when they need them can I ask if there have been any problems that you would put down to this?
TIA

Hello there stranger!
I would like to answer this specific question if I may? Ok then....you will naturally receive better results from dopaminergic medication if you use it as a "go pill" as and when you need it, It's just basic common biological sense I feel. Also it gives your liver & kidneys a day or two off 👍
Now some people will follow there Doctors orders to the book! Perhaps they feel they can't bare a day without meds or the Doctor knows best...whatever there reasons that's fine.
However, if your like myself you will know and understand 100% that nobody knows your body like you do 💪
Cheers

I genuinely forget to take my meds sometimes (today, for example). I notice it. I also notice when I've taken them, as the noise is gone. If I forget, I will all of a sudden find my old 'muscle memory' kicking in, pressing Ctrl+T, f, enter, to open up facebook, then not realising why I've done it when I'm supposed to be doing some research on whatever subject and being like "oh, I, wait...shit, yeah, that'll explain it"
I also - as we discussed on the other thread - sometimes choose not to take it if I know I don't need to be focused on anything in particular, but honestly I much prefer the version of myself I am when on medication compared to not so I tend to have it in me most of the time.

I've missed a few days. Noticed it and not in a good way - irritability mostly. I'll experiment more with holidays when I'm stabilised.
I'm MUCH better on meds, but I didn't hate myself all the time pre meds! If I was in design mode I wouldn't want it since I LIKE and VALUE my scatty impulsive hyper-focused hyper-connected thinking, at least in the 'divergent' idea generating phases of a new project...
Having said that I'd take it for sure when it comes to the 'convergence' stages - i.e. actually making decisions and finishing a thing ;-)
Also I wouldn't take it if I intended to party hard ;-) Or maybe if I was doing something strenuous and sustained like climbing Killimanjaro.
HOWEVER - I'm not sure (its early days) how coming on and off the meds might affect me. There seems to be a 'getting used to it' period of a few days. I noticed this strongly when I first started and when the dose was increased. Headaches, speedy/ anxious feelings etc - which went away after two or three days. I wouldn't want to feel like that after every break.
There may also be a 'come-down' and perhaps my missed dose irritability is simply that. In my youth I tried speed a few times, and although I quite liked the high I didn't like the come-down - irritability being the main symptom.
