After feeling like a weirdo for as long as I can remember, my husband showed me a reddit page about ADHD (www.reddit.com/r/ADHD/) which I've spent the last few days reading through and found myself agreeing with nearly everything. I've really had my eyes opened.
I want to get checked out. I know this is silly, having lived my whole life like this, but I don't want to wait. I've got the top Bupa package but they say they don't cover ADHD so I'm resigned to handing over a silly amount of money to get seen quickly.
I've called around and only psymplicity in London can get me in next week. It means a 5 hour train ride (each way) and a ridiculous amount of money (£750 ) but I'm getting anxious and just want to get it over with. They have either Dr Parsonage or Dr Sahota on Monday, or Dr Beider on Wednesday (www.psymplicity.com/psychiatrists shows them all). I'd rather go with one of the Monday ones, but does anyone know them and would be willing to tell me their experience?
If I am diagnosed, which I'd be amazed if I wasn't after reading through Reddit, I want to try medication but I also think I want to try therapy. So I want a psychiatrist who will do more than just write a prescription and send me on my way - I want to talk about my issues and learn more about their cause and anything I can do to fix them.
If none of them are recommended, I'd be willing to consider others if they have good availability... I just don't want to wait too long. I'm based in the North so that would be a lot more convenient for me, but I'm fine with travelling if it means a better experience.
Thank you
