Good afternoon,
I am a MSc Health Psychology student. I am carrying out my research project through the University of Derby exploring how online discussion forum users perceive their smoking behaviour in relation to their diagnosis of ADHD. I am the only researcher and my Supervisor is Dr. Ainslea Cross, who is a Chartered Psychologist and the Academic Lead for Health Psychology at University of Derby.
I am requesting your permission for extracts from some of your posts to be utilised for qualitative analysis using grounded theory in my research project. The aim of the project is to explore motivating factors for smoking behaviour in people with ADHD. I am hoping this research will help to facilitate smoking cessation programs targeted at people with ADHD.
Any posts used in the research will not be used in their entirety, and any user names, avatars or signatures will be not be shown, so that they are not easily traceable back to the original posters. Also, pseudonyms will be used for data that has been analysed and used in the report.
Your participation will remain confidential and anonymous and is completely voluntary. You may also withdraw from the research up to two weeks after participation.
The research project will commence as soon it has been approved by the University of Derby Ethics Committee. Unfortunately, they will not approve my project until I have received your permission to use your posts in my research. The deadline for my project is April 8th 2019 and data collection will occur over approximately one month between these dates.
If you are interested in allowing your posts to be used in this study, please email me at c.jeeves1@unimail.derby.ac.uk for more information. There is no obligation to participate.
Thank you.
