Hi there. I used to come on this forum quite a lot but I haven't recently. I still haven't got my diagnosis, and it's been complicated by a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. I'm currently in hospital and waiting until I get out to start my campaign for an ADHD diagnosis.
I just want to know, are Ritalin and anti-psychotic medication compatible? I'm on Depixol and I want to know if there's anyone who takes both anti-pscychotic medication and ADHD medication? Can they be taken together?
Thanks for any replies!

I know that my son's psychiatrist has refused to prescribe ADHD medication, as my son is on anti-psychotics at present, just a very small dose as he's hoping to come off it . She has no experience of ADHD, although we feel it is at the back of all his subsequent problems. I can understand her reluctance, as ADHD medication is a stimulant, whereas the anti-psychotic is trying to do the opposite., eg. calm him down.

Okay thanks, that doesn't look hopeful for me.
Any other experience?

Okay thanks, that doesn't look hopeful for me. Any other experience? I'm currently prescribed Concerta xl for ADHD (72mg a day). I am also taking Quetiapine which is an antipsychotic. Both prescribed by the same doctor. The Quetiapine is prescribed off label (not for its original intended use) so am only on 100mg a day. From what I am aware this isn't "that High" of a dose. Been taking both for around 10ish months. I have no issues or side effects that I am aware of. Hope this may help a little

I'm on quite a low dose of my anti-psychotic as well. If you don't mind me asking, what are you using Quetiapine for?

I'm on promazine low dose as and when for agitation to do with my ASD, about to titrate onto concerta XL following a recent ADHD inattentive diagnosis, no concerns raised about my promazine use, i take it maybe once or twice a month though i imagine once i'm well on my adhd meds a lot of the issues that cause agitation and meltdown will resolve
