Is there anyone who can give me some advice on Personal Independence Payment and driving please.
Sorry about the length of this post, but basically we applied for pip for my son when he was 16, he got higher rate for daily living.
He got 13 points....had a form last year for a review which we filled in, nothing much had changed with his issues. He has ADHD and some anxiety.
After a face to face assessment last month, where the assessor asked if he drove, which he does, we've now received the decision, whereby his benefit has stopped, he only got 2 points in total! The reasons given are basically that because he can drive a manual car, and how much coordination, dexterity, concentration etc, that requires, apparently that means he can do everything else fine that we described as him having trouble with.
I WANT to ask for a mandatory reconsideration, but as you only need to inform the DVLA if ADHD affects your driving (which it doesn't for him, he has his ways of concentrating for this), but if we ask for a mandatory reconsideration, even though it will be on the other descriptors, nothing to do with driving, may they decide to inform the DVLA, or tell us we need to do it?
He's already hammered for insurance because of his age , he's 19, but he has a black box, so that would show up if there were real issues with his driving! He has enough to cope with, and don't want us having to go through the extra thing of DVLA, extra checks etc . He's wanted to drive for years, and cant use public transport because of anxiety.....he wouldn't have got through all his lessons, and passed first time if there was a big issue with his driving.but it is so unfair that his PIP has been stopped when he's no better more or less than he was 3 yrs ago.
Any advice would be appreciated. And sorry if I haven't described things very well!
Thanks.
