Hi everyone im Sara and i was diagnosed with ADHD 13 years ago at the Maudsley in London. My dx is mod/severe, whatever that means lol. I am 53, female and am all the things that are ADHD. Before I introduce myself, which seems more pointless the older I get as your story is probably my story and visa versa, I've made a discovery about my medication and I'm really angry. I've been on Concerta for years now, 3x36mg daily but i generally take 2 a day. Last year my prescription changed to Delmosart, a cheap generic alternative, which i accepted. During this time I began to feel different, more clumsy forgetful and not very focussed.i went to my gp and said I was worried I had dementia bla bla bla. Then, as we do, I started googling and ended up in a Google worm hole, resurfacing with a nugget of an explaination! Some years ago a study was carried out and some cells were found in ADHD brains that were the same as cells in early dementia patients. Ironically, some dementia patients are given ADHD meds to help them function better. Anyway, this really shook me, so much so, I contacted a London based clinic looking for people with mild cognitative symptoms to have an mri to see if you had this particular marker for early altzheimers, I was accepted! I've gone right off track now lol. So last week Boots told me they had no Delmosart, manurfactur problem, meltdown, no drugs! Long story short, before i wander again, yesterday I googled to see what the issue was with the supply and what to do. I found something that has changed everything. Concerta has an invisible hole at one end. This is how the slow release works. It's not actually a hole but an indentation, thinner bit of the shell. It must allow the contents to come out very gradually. The Demosart tablet does not have this indentation. Both drugs have the same bio make up but not the same DELIVERY method. Im like WTF!I'm not going senile, the generic drug doesn't work properly. And just this morning I've proved it. I took Concerta for the first time in months because of the supply issue with the other, just one tablet and I'm speeding my tits off, to put it bluntly š That should not happen if the drugs are exactly the same. I AM NOT GOING MAD, I'M STILL ME! Hi and bye as I'm waiting for a phone call and I'm all anxious and tense like I've took too many tablets lol. I havnt obviously. Thanks for reading my thing x

So Iāve quoted your OP from the mobile site (I know. . .how come posts show on mobile site and not main one? No idea!) anyway . . .I posted a couple of videos the other day explaining how ābio equivalentā mph XL doesnāt mean it works, or is released the same. Iāll look for the link and add it.

Hi On the very day you wrote your post I wrote a reply and then deleted as I thought I didnāt make sense. I am exactly the same age as you and just diagnosed about a year Iād been given stattera and modnifinil and for the whole of that time apart from about a month Iāve might as well have a mattress tied to my back Iāve been so brain fogged and tired which has been like this for over 20 years so my psychiatrist said āI donāt understand it.ā Well Iāve had to go for a dementia test. Needed to do that before I can get concerta so Iām thinking perhaps I have got dementia... Iāve worn a jumper 2 times inside out a bloody t shirt back to front 3 times this month.
So I pass the dementia test in the sense I have not got dementia and Iām thinking thank god im going to get new meds but no I have to wait until he gets the magic prescription pad and he will chase that up .... arghhhhh. I asked him what will happen if concerta doesnāt work he then said thereās not a lot of other avenues donāt expect a magic wand. So getting to the point I said to my husband .. if I manage to get this and you ever pick up my prescription up please do not pick up the generic as I explained about what you had gone through. I should have reached out to you but I want to let you know you post did have an impact on me and I was so scared I had dementia. You have helped me in what I have been going though lately x

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. ADHD also affects many adults. Symptoms of ADHD include inattention (not being able to keep focus), hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought).
