So my local PCT Caerphilly / Anurin Bevan have asked me to go to there new "pilot ADHD centre that starts soon. They no longer wish to carry on funding out of area trips to Bristol for check ups and prescriptions. So you would expect they would simply send my notes, case history and other info to the new clinic and simply continue treatment as it is now (3 years of treatment with no changes so far). Wrong... read below..
Bit of a waste of time. Considering that i was:
diagnosed over 3 years ago in Bristol on NHS by adult adhd experts,
had 3 years of treatment/prescriptions and no issues or probs with meds,
they (Caerphilly PCT) asked me to go to see adhd clinic here to save them money as they were funding out of area costs
my notes about treatment/diagnosis etc are detailed and available from my GP or Bristol ADHD centre...
...I was irritated to find out on arrival at apt last week that lady i was seeing was a basic nurse who was only assessing my "needs" and doing a full 1hr 30min "evaluation" of my mental health! To then be able to submit and decide if i needed / was appropriate to see ADHD clinic there...
I have mild "inattentive" adhd with no comorbid conditions (no history of anxiety, depression or other mental health issues. They have access to all my notes, they know i am already diagnosed and in treatment and that i was coming to them to transfer treatment check ups and prescription collection only. So why the hell was i having to do this form filling, red tape and nonsense waste of time appointment!?
I had questions like - Am i feeling suicidal, how was my childhood, how do i cope with stress, whats my memory like, how is my marriage and other relationships/friendships...
I will hear back shortly from them to discover if they think its correct/appropriate to see adhd expert here in Caerphilly!?
God knows why they could not simply READ the notes about my case, get any info they req from GP or Bristol clinic, and then simply arrane adhd apt for check up with them, instead of this ridiculous "policy"/"procedure". Surely its basic common sense and logic that this was not necessary in my case. They wasted there time too meaning others who needed an apt would have not been able to have it. It baffles me.
Finally, the lady i met with (who was in fairness lovely and understanding) even admitted she felt it was silly and that she has little to know knowledge about ADHD and thus is unable to spot it or test for it to be able to make a sensible/rational "judgement or decision on whether i "need" to see ADHD clinic there. So it really was a pointless excercise.
