Hi I'm a bit new to this, 33 y/o male working in higher education- one of the biggest universities in London
Was diagnosed 2 months ago after trouble at work Boss- "you're aggressive..arrogant...flippant...confrontational." eerrr ok, I thought I was being honest and straightforward. She had it in for me from start anyway, but I really loved the work and all my other colleagues. I am experience and qualified in my technical field.
Long and short of it- I self diagnosed ADHD on the online HR system, thus notifying employer, who should then be making reasonable adjustments and don't. Then boss recommends dismissal on basis of 'attitude', which I countered is probably realted to ADHD (not uncommon). Awaiting formal diagnosis at this point... sent on gardening leave for 2 months. Letter from GP and occupational health to employer. Back to work, after 2 days she decides (based on 'strong feeling') that my attitide has not improved. Recommend for dismissal again. Go to pro-vice chancellor who listens attentively. Gives me extension to see the psych. I get the diagnosis and put on Concerta XL, which helps a lot.
Outcome of appeal arrives ' the doctor stated that the symptoms are "consistent" with ADHD. This seems to be short of a formal diagnosis'.... eeerrr three medical doctors are telling you I have ADHD and you don't believe them??
This is the irony- the uni has an ongoing project about why more staff members don't disclose disabilities! Well in my experience this is a) not followed up legally and b) lead to dismissal.
SO my questions are-
Anyone know the best ADHD lawyer in London town?
Anyone else been in this situation AND had a positive result from the Equality Act 2010 legislation?
Thanks peeps. Off to psych now to show him the low regard his opion is held by my employer.
