Yesterday, my 9 year old was sent out of the class....
she was shouted at in front of the whole class
told to go to the teacher of the class two years below and tell her "I don't want you in here"
It all started when there was a computer app they were using but she didn't know how to do it, having never used it before....when she asked how to use it, she was told sternly, "If you don't know how to use it, then you shouldn't be on there"
she then told me that another boy (with learning difficulties) started 'playing up' in some way....and she got the brunt of all the teacher's annoyance at that...she was then made to write a letter of apology
I am applying for her to be statutorily assessed....this was rejected (99.9% are) and we go to tribunal in March on appeal.
From the stories I hear from other parents, this school is actually very good and I have a good relationship with the Head and the Senco and even the teacher, but there is just so little understanding of ADHD.....it's all just seen as nothing more than putting in boundaries and tellings off if this doesn't work.
just to add, it transpired afterwards that my dad, who'd had her stay overnight, forgot to give her the meds, but we are not obligated to give her them and she has been struggling this week and I'd already notified them about this.
We keep asking for her to be allowed to go to the quiet library and chill out as and when she needs to....they say yes and then hardly ever do it....I've kept her off today, she's so stressed.....

I picked up a whole pile of leaflets from the group I go to that turned out to be excellent. They're made by Shire and there are several different ranges for teachers, parents and children. They are easy to read, very well laid out and pretty spot on about ADHD.
I gave a couple to Genghis's school in the vague hope that a couple of teachers might see them, but the deputy head ordered a whole boxful and distributed them around all his teachers. (I nearly fell off my chair when I was told that.) I'll ask the woman who runs the group where you can get hold of some.
I had a quick look at the Shire site but couldn't see anything on there about them and I've packed them into some box or other so I can't find them to get the details.
I'll let you know.

Oh, and I also meant to say, they do boxes of 'Time-out' cards with the idea that the child can hand one to the teacher when things get too much and go to a quiet place without having to try to explain or even just to run to the loo if they realise they've left it too late.

Sorry to read all this FW xxxx I think you did the right thing keeping her off school. Are you going to talk to the teacher? If there's so little understanding there, given where you live, I wondered if Andrea from Addiss could help? Kathymel, do you know? Xxx

I found one of the little boxes of Time-out cards: So, I have the address to order them from: Shire Hampshire International Business Park Chineham Basingstoke Hampshire RG24 8EP The order no. for the cards is UK/CORP/10/0119 Shame I packed the leaflets yesterday or I could let you have those order nos., too. If you just ask for a sample of everything they've got, I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige. I also found the site that is part of the whole Shire ADHD thing here. There's quite a few info downloads on there but I couldn't find the teacher one that I really liked. I hope things get better for your daughter very soon. x

Just a quick update..... I spoke to shire....thanks Kathymel....and they are posting stuff (hope it arrives in time for Monday) I also spoke to ADDISS....thanks JJ and left msg, so hope they get back to me....and another two ADHD experts who deal with schools/parents etc.....also waiting to hear back from them I have a meeting with the SENCO on Monday morning.....there is an intervention lady who sees naughty daught once a week to help with self-esteem from toll of the treatment received before diagnosis......and they are clearly either more interested to help and understand....OR.....are upping the ante in view of a looming tribunal in 2 months.....because HER BOSS is coming along too... ....as well as the school liaison officer......who has never attended before...but is very nice in the meantime, I have come to the conclusion that a growth spurt means that the effect of the MPH is wearing off now by lunchtime and so we need to have an extra dose at lunchtime.....I hadn't mentioned my intention to ask anyone about this....and then out of the blue, the teacher suggested exactly the same thing....and by chance we are seeing the ADHD specialist team for the first time on Monday afternoon (having been referred by CAMHs) so will bring this up lastly, I'm going to do a la Kathymel now with her brilliant Genghis Gazette....and start a new thread specifically for naughty daught.....because it will really help me to have a journal of evidence and timelines of events in chronological order in preparation for the Tribunal.....also the Maudsley want a Mood Diary, so it will serve as that too thanks all for reading and for your help x x x

Well done for doing all that! You seem to have been on a roll today.
Sounds like you've got them all on their toes and paying attention at last.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you for both meetings on Monday.
