Forgive me guys, I'm feeling totally shit lately, so this might turn into a rant...
A lot of websites tend to point to the main AADDUK website (not forum) as the go-to place for UK support. Why then when I go there myself in need of a new reading fix is it very rarely updated? It just comes across as neglected and forgotten. I kept checking back to see if there was anything new or interesting and would end up heading for ADDitude which is so Americanised it annoys me. I don't even bother checking AADD now. I wonder how many people we miss due to the site looking out of date and migrating elsewhere?
So I guess I'm asking what is the purpose of the main site? What information or articles are considered suitable, and why is there not more activity on there?
grumpy out

To be fair, and given some of their comments, I suspect the admins/mods are discussing this?

Hi donkeykebab and ADDJourney I'm going to move this thread in a few minutes, unless you object, to the ideas for the website board because I don't want to lose track of it.
We are indeed talking about the website and how to keep it updated.

I run my own ADHD related web/blogsite (mainly for local support) and I find it devlish hard to find interesting stuff to post up - there's not that much going on that's important enough otherwise you end up with 'millions killed in motorway madness, local man scratched' type news for the sake of it.
It's also very important to keep a site fresh or it loses traction.
Another balance to be struck.
Hard work this!

I can understand that Dave. I'm forever trying to scour the latest research material and probably end up recycling loads of old stuff.
However, a "3-to-5 latest post" summary feed of latest forum posts near the top of the front page would help in showing that at least the site is still very much alive in some form.

BTW there is no direct connection between the forum and the website eg I'm not involved in administering the website at all so please don't send me material - I'd end up forwarding it to roland so cut out the middleman. Which raises the point - is there a contact address to send material to? I've never noticed one (though I'm too lazy to nip out to look).

Yes, I think I understood that. But whoever administers the front end of the organisation might want to consider streaming summary posts from the forum to the homepage in the way they have with the Twitter feed.

Okay, I have set up a feed of the latest posts from the forum into Feedburner, but I need to talk with Atticus about setting it up on our homepage. I've checked our settings and it seems he is the first admin for the home page (I'm second) which means he's the only one with a privilege advanced enough to download the right widget to accept the feeds from Feedburner. So I'm halfway there I have managed to put a twitter feed from our account onto the bottom of the forum main page. It's not pretty but it was the best I could do in the time I've got.

I'll put up a list of the kind of stuff we need, but not just yet, I need to work on a spreadsheet for random. I promised I would have it done a couple of weeks ago

Roland - there's only so much you can do at once, especially when what you do is voluntary. Is anyone volunteering to help out?

People can put suggestions etc in the comments box that's available on every page of the site. I meant that people reading this thread can send me material. Actually better yet they can put it on this thread. I need material for the organising page. Names of gadgets that people have found helpful would be great.

Thanks Roland. I didn't mean to make more work for you, feel kinda guilty now. And odat I'd love more than anything to help but at the moment I can only just hold my life together. Besides, I know diddly-squat about running a website. Thank you to the guys that do though, be assured your efforts have played a massive part in my road to recovery.

We might need more staff but the gender balance is..................... ignored because we're more concerned with quality. And where would we find more males that are qualified? Equal opportunities - no closed lists.

I think you're right in normal circumstances, but when you have very intense opinions localised to a specific MH demographic, then I just think it helps with perceptions. In the end there are some very talented and reasonable people available from either gender, but pragmatically I think another female will help at your level. Conversely, and at a general contributory/general membership level, I'd like to see more men being proactive. I see lots joining up but they are rarely as eager to share on a consistent basis as the women. Selfishly speaking, that would mean men like me won't be seen as over-sharing weirdos if others came on board and would help break commonly held stereotypes That said re staffing, as a member I'll fall behind any reasonable decision. After all, the admins and their staff are the ones taking all the risk and have spent years of their personal time, effort and money bringing together a nucleus of information, support and influence.

Well that's good then. Singing from the same-ish hymn sheet? Anyway, maybe I should just shut my opinionated cake-hole

Well AFAIK there are 3 admins, so is @planetdave a genderless automaton (joke), or are there only 2 admins, Dave is a moderator and annie's a bloke? Or am I the only non-admin and have somehow entered a purgatorial twilight zone while I await my sentence and this is just all a big fat illusion created by a deity with Attention-deficit Mischievous Disorder? Probably been explained elsewhere

By your reckoning the gender balance is skewed 2:1 to the distaff side! Genderless automaton? Not many automata prefer to pee standing up - yeah, both points shot down with one bullet Follow that J.R.

When we say we are a voluntary group, it means we don't get paid anything at all so give a chance!

When we say we are a voluntary group, it means we don't get paid anything at all so give a chance! Eh? I thought I was just showing my gratitude! Confused My second post above was a clarification of my first post (also above) but as I was not logged in so couldn't edit it afterwards. I wasn't rushing you or criticising in any way, just trying to be helpful. Oh well....such is ADHD.
