I think it would be nice to have a kind of Awards thingy for this true online community for the various sorts of activities such as "Most nominated contributor for positive advice" or "Most improved since diagnosis" and "Biggest achievement in Charity work for ADHD recognition, etc."
It would be every quarter (3 months) and have categories and everyone here would nominate a member (not guests as that would leave a big whole for fixing lol) which would encourage more users to sign up or join and the winners would receive an avatar with the title of their award on it, just as a nice thing to do to include everyone and give recognition to us all and to cheer people up, after all everyone's loves a good party, don't they?

Hi Wavey
Your idea appears to be to turn a community forum, where the vulnerable summon all the courage they can muster to post, into a preening arena where the more boisterous vie for the adoration of the regulars?
How are you planning to solve the issue of heightened rejection sensitivity by the overwhelming majority of those who post here, who will subsequently feel slighted when the red carpet is not forthcoming?
You may find more support for your self-aggrandising masterplan when you do not alienate the largest segment of your target audience with cliquey quips.
Good luck.

Hi Abd,
You may or may not be aware, but this was a suggested idea, a concept, something to be discussed and further developed. You also nay or may not be aware that your reply reads like an attack and only focuses on negativity and isn't helpful in the slightest.
Maybe try discussion before judgement.

Whilst I appreciate the idea and sentiment I'm not in favour personally. For me, these systems visibly give praise for visible things, and I have a hidden disability and on a daily basis fight hidden battles. One of the things I love about this forum is that it is not competitive - there is enough of that in life. To be honest, I think Abd has made some good points - I think an award system would go against what this place is about. With awards there are always winners and losers - that or everyone is a winner and the award becomes meaningless....just my thoughts on the matter.

Good point Petra, well put and kept in the spirit it was meant to be in, one of discussion.

I'm not in favour - there is too much scope for misplaced popularity contests and feelings to get slighted (I get upset when something I post in great seriousness and with fabulous insight isn't toasted to the rafters when some lightweight, populist, rubbish is lauded to the heavens).
The sentiment of having positive contribution rewarded is lovely but the reality is that we're terribly vulnerable people with easily bruised egos and frequent poor judgment. That's everyone else, obviously. Not you.
I'm afraid that virtuousness will have to be it's own reward.

Thanks Dave, very insightful.
It's a system that has been used in other situations to encourage members to increase their activity and thought into what they might advise others and it has created a closer community and I can recall one in particular where it expanded into a face to face dinner and dance once a year.
I do understand the other side, where anyone can inflict their negativity into the well-intended idea and it quickly changes into something hurtful and beyond.
To not suggest an idea is to censor and stamp out creative thinking and I'm pissed off by the tone of ABD's response. If this was unintentional on their part then this post will draw their attention to it.

In addition to the negatives already listed theres alot of literature about how negatively rewards and praise effect motivation, so cd simpley lead to less involvement. I know id be inclined to leave a forum the uses an.awards system.

PD has this right I feel, awards and medals can be given in groups - cabals if you like, that leads to individuals feeling dismissed, differentiated and disenfranchised. The last thing we want on here is a vulnerable individual feeling isolated and dismissed from the pack as a group huddle around the honey pot. That's why I can't stand, and am suspicious of, gongs delivered by the British Establishment based on someone's subjective view of what constitutes merit and which is extended to an irrelevant and false "empire"!
Can we just keep it as it is? Besides, I want to exist in peace with the outside NT world without being part of their lie too ;-)

Dear All,
I don't think this "idea" will move on to be implemented, based on the replies here, so no need to panic.

You never know - this place is not a popularity contest! I'd give you brownie points for your positive contribution viz your suggestion (please continue to make suggestions, I appreciate them). But I was afraid I'd be taken out and shot

I know this discussion has reached a conclusion, but I just wanted to say that upon first reading Wavey's post I thought it was a good idea.
We obviously all have pretty crappy days. Last night was a particularly crappy one for me, and reading Wavey's post this morning, with the idea that I might be nominated for something positive and have my contributions recognised by people who understand rather than criticised by people who have NO idea, made me feel hopeful.
I hadn't thought about all of the obviously valid implications mentioned here, and I suspect Wavey didn't either.
My gut-reaction to the idea was a positive one.
