chaoticwitch Glad to hear from you, although not about your situation. . . I've also had problems with therapy, it has helped me to talk about things in a safe space but, since ADHD dx, I realised that it was never going to have a lasting effect unless the therapy addressed my ADHD. When your brain works differently from the norm and the therapist treats you as if you're neurotypical, it's not going to work and you're more likely be be diagnosed with other MH issues, such as personality disorder . . because they don't understand your thought-processing and emotional reaction. I also feel for you with your issues with your son. . I have no advice. . I hope things improve for you.

Not been on here for a while, I couldn't the page! It was on my favourites bar but I must have deleted it and couldn't remember exactly what the forum was called, then sitting here not even thinking about this site and all the info popped into my head so thought I would reconnect before I forgot it again. I am still on the waiting list for a local DBT group which should be starting in the next couple of weeks, I have also changed gp's which has prompted a re-referel to the ADHD clinic, really hoping that there are some staff changes as I didn't see eye to eye with some of the medical staff there. I am going to ask them about testing for the autistic spectrum, after reading up a lot of information I am starting to think that that may be relevant to me. Does anybody else out there have an autistic diagnosis as well as ADHD? Off to have 5 teeth out at the end of this month!!! I am more than a little scared, especially as I haven't been to the sedation clinic for an extraction in about 15 years as I was refused treatment for a long time due to being verbally abusive after coming out of the sedation. So have had to have a general anaesthetic whenever I've needed treatment since. I don't know whether it is because I've changed my surname back to my maiden name that I am no longer on the radar, but at every appointment I'm expecting to be outed!!! I find it hard to understand how I can be held responsible for myself after sedation! My brother was with me and took me home so whatever they had to deal with it couldn't have been for long. I can't wait to get the teeth out, two are broken and the other 3 are lose, making eating rather difficult, not that I imagine it will be much easier with a mouthful of gaps

Welcome back chaoticwitchYup, both adhd and asd, you wait all your life for a disorder and two come along at once! Oh wait, that's buses! It seems that developmental disorders are rarely found on their own. Anyways, dentists! They are better than they used to be, much better My childhood dentist left most of my neighbourhood with a phobia about the dentist, having moved away I've not been able to confirm the roumour that she was eventually struck off. Childhood phobias, misspent youth and both neglect and excess left me with a gob much like you describe. I wasn't keen to go back! Nowadays they actually wait for the jags to take effect! This is I think the biggest difference from back then when it was jag in one hand drill in the other... For me that means I'm sitting there 10/20mins before they can start and have on occasions had a 2nd round but the difference is remarkable! It's all very different and a lot better than it was!

Chaotic witch, do you think prescribed medication has made a difference to your diagnosis?

Hi chaoticwitch . . .good to hear from you again I was assessed for autism before ADHD and have significant ASC traits, although just short of diagnosable. I go to a few support groups and there are a lot of people with ADHD who also have autistic traits or a full dual dx. Good luck with your teeth!
