Hi all I'm interested to know about experiences with sleep. I'm a 48 yr old newly diagnosed female. Been on Ritalin 5mg x3 for two weeks now..
Sleeping very heavily and dreaming a lot. Instead of snapping awake I climb out of sleep. Is this how those without adhd wake up?
So yes I'm sleeping more hours each night. Is this a good thing??

I know it doesn't answer your question. I have trouble sleep it was worse when I wasn't on any Adhd medication.
I am on melatonin I'm 40. I was told that you get to our stage in life you need less sleep.
But, I would love to be able to sleep like what you are describing. That sleep were you get in bed at 11 pm and that is it till 7am.
No one or thing to waking me no anxiety or racing thoughts..
Oh what would it be like to sleep like a teenager!

I used to have terrible problems with a racing mind at nights. Also, I would talk in my sleep and sleep walk. Now I can control it and I think
I must use a sort of meditation technique. When I am awake I have no ability to visualise images in my mind, but just before I fall asleep I
start to see quite graphic pictures which is really nice.
My biggest problem is waking up in the morning. It is like I am awake but still asleep at the same time. I can't describe it. I dream heavily
all through the night and when I awake I find it difficult to get out of dream mode and activate my mind. The part of the brain that takes
charge and tells me what to do, isn't there. If I get a modicum of control I have found that thinking/drumming out a fast beat in my head changes something and I become aware of the day.
My mum suffers from a constantly racing mind and she sleeps with the radio on. She claims that music calms her thoughts.

I don't know how ritalin affects your sleep, neither do I know how it feels to wake up from a good nights sleep as a non ADHDer.
I do take concerta and know that it is very important to take it at the right time. Too early and I crash in the evening and can hardly put a sentence together. Or if I take it too late I am sat up most of the night, or popping sleeping tablets to get to sleep.
How you explained climbing out of sleep, instead of snapping awake, this is how I feel when I have had a sleeping pill the night before. I know I have slept soundly and all through the night but I feel I could quite easily stay there and probably drift back off to sleep again.
