I was recently diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 18, being prescribed 10mg of strattera daily for 2 weeks, then 20mg for 2 weeks and then 30mg for 10 weeks. Originally i noticed a slight improvment in my focusing abilities, but found it was heavily outweighed by the negative side effects of how irritable i was and my complete lack of libido. It got to the point when my girlfriend would almost be begging for sex, and I would have rather licked the pavment outside than oblige- out of character for me haha. Then the real issues began after my dose went up to the 20mg, I would ejaculate before orgasm, then again with orgasm however it brought a lot of pain, throbbing testicles and stingy tip (excuse the crudeness). Anyhow after informing my doctor of this, he demanded I stopped the medication immediately and come in to his clinic this Saturday (20/2). I'm assuming he is going to start me on Ritalin (am I wrong?), my concern being that I smoke weed everyday as I find it helps chill me out. During the week I would only have one bowl a night, as a an incentive to do my coursework and try hard during the studying day. Does anyone know if the combination of Ritalin and cannabis could be in some way detrimental to my health? Or somewhat reduce the effectiveness of the Ritalin. My doctor is well aware of my psychological cannabis addiction, but I felt I should ask here as I'm not the most comfortable with my doctor. Any help much appreciated!!

Well...... I'm on Ritalin LA now for over 2 months. I was initially put on Strattera and hated it with a passion. During the times I smoked weed while taking the Strattera it was easier to deal with the negative side effects of the strattera. When I didnt have weed all I wanted to do was drink or at least find some way to deal with the way the strattera was affecting me. I'm not even much of a drinker at all.
When I didnt have weed, I would be thinking about it, wanting it and spending money I didnt have. I used weed to calm myself and to focus.
When I began taking the ritalin all my cravings and need for smoke disappeared!!! My theory is that the weed was giving me the same effect as the ritalin, ie. the dopamine receptors where activated.
I now no longer crave weed because the ritalin has done the same thing, it activates the dopanime receptors, same as weed.
Hope that helps.
So I would say give the ritalin LA a go and see if the need for weed is as strong or if you find that you no longer need it. Its what happened to me and I was pretty shocked to be honest.

I've also heard tales of people with big drinking habits who stopped almost overnight when they started stimulant meds. It seems when some people find something that works, their body stops demanding that they self-medicate.

cannabis actually effectively treats ADHD in many people, better than stimulants in some cases - there has even been a lot of mainstream press about it (albeit over sensationalised).
But I also know that all the big weed heads Ive known, who have smoked heavily every day since they were about 13. They eventually got fed up and stopped at around age 30, were dead proud of doing so and found it cleared a fog and left them more productive and motivated.
All quite confusing, but I think the answer is to examine yourself. You will experience the answer to your questions, no one else can say for sure. Not even the worlds best scientific authority.

Medical cannabis is able to treat stress and anxiety, that's true. But I think one should consult a doctor before taking it, as marijuana can have different effects and all this is very individual.
