Hi there I'm accompanying my hubby to an nhs adhd assessment in a couple of days and I wondered if there was any advice on anything I should do to prepare.
They haven't really sent any information on what to expect so I don't know if I'm going to be put on the spot and consequently forget some important info. Did anyone else do an assessment with their other halves?
Tia

Normally the patient and a relative would be sent a questionnaire/screening tool prior to the appointment. However, as you've not had one maybe make a list of the things your husband struggles with and give examples.

Thank you Annie, we did the questionnaires by post, thinking of some examples sounds like a good idea, thanks

Well I'm glad I didn't prepare too much, they waited until we were in the waiting room to say the appointment had been moved to 3 weeks time, excellent way to push hubby's buttons. Luckily he has a great sense of humour, but I'll be keeping a close eye on him over the next few days!

Just wanted to follow up on my initial question as he got his diagnosis yesterday - no preparation was required as I helped with a couple of forgotten details but mostly just moral support really. Thought that might help anyone who was wondering the same

It's wonderful to hear a person without adhd is willing to take the extra step to understand and support one of us. Most just interested on scratching the surface but taking the words into actions admirable. here for what ever you Need and more than happy to share and care.

Thank you for the nice welcome Frameofmind, I'm sure there are plenty of 'neurotypical' people around who are interested in learning more (of course there are a lot who aren't, but whether those people are worth knowing is another question ) I'm not exactly 'normal' in the head department myself, have had depression and anxiety on and off and interchangeably for as long as I can remember, so I at least have an empathy for having a naughty brain that doesn't do what it's told
