Hi All
This is my first post and came across this forum looking for advice on diagnosing ADD.
I have a 21 yr old son who I am sure has ADD. He was never diagnosed at school but recently a sibling of his who works with ADHD teens pointed me in the direction of getting him formally diagnosed.
I have a GP appt tomorrow with my son and have printed off all forms recommended on this site.
Does anyone have any experience of an NHS diagnosis in Birmingham or could recommend any private clinics?
Many thanks for your help.
Sue

I can recommend a private Doctor in Birmingham if you send me a message I can let you know

I'm in Birmingham myself, and went private through psychiatry-UK for my diagnosis. Private is expensive (I ran a go fund me to add to my own savings) but well worth it in the end- getting diagnosed has genuinely saved my life.
Problems I've had have all come after diagnosis, because I can't afford ongoing private costs. I should be being reviewed regularly, and am wanting to review my elvanse prescription, but my gp can't do it.
I'm with a psychiatrist for depression (which I believe is no longer relevant since I was diagnosed with ADHD and have been learning about how it affects me, no issues with depression since) but he refuses to deal with the ADHD side of things. To be honest, he was useless for the depression side too. According to him, there is an ADHD team in Birmingham, but they only deal with kids. I just don't understand why there wouldn't be an adult team for neurodevelopmental disorders. It's not like they magically go away when you turn 18. Grrrr.
Just made an appointment with my GP to try and get referred to the neuropsychiatry service I found out about (https://www.bsmhft.nhs.uk/our-services/specialist-services/neuropsychiatry/), will update this thread with how that goes.
