Research Title: Living with sleep disturbances in children and adolescents with ADHD. A large-scale online parent-report survey with a focus on successful and unsuccessful strategies for improving sleep.
About the research
My name is Rebecca Paling and I am a MSc student from the Institute of Education at University College London , from whom I have received ethical approval to conduct this research.
I am conducting this research as part of my Masters in Child Development dissertation. I am interested in learning more about the relationship between sleep and ADHD, and in particular, what strategies parents/carers of children with ADHD have found useful in improving their child’s sleep.
In order to take part you must be a parent or primary carer of a child with ADHD.
What will happen if I choose to take part?
If you are happy to take part then you will complete an online questionnaire, which will take approximately 10 minutes. The questionnaire involves questions relating to you and your child’s diagnosis of ADHD, the quality of your child’s sleep and strategies you may have used to try and help with their sleep. Some of these questions will be on a rating scale while others will be open ended questions requiring short responses. If at any time before or during the questionnaire you feel you want to withdraw from the study you are welcome to do so.
What happens to your responses?
All responses are anonymous, with you only being identified by a unique reference number. Your information will be used for research purposes only. Your individual responses will only be available to my supervisor and myself and will be stored for a maximum of two years. Once the research project is complete you may request a copy with a summary of the research findings. The findings will be presented as a written report to my department and external assessors. There is the possibility that the results will be also presented in a poster conference or published in a journal article. However, the information will not be used in a manner which would allow identification of your individual responses.
Duration of Research
The questionnaire will be launched on March 25th and will be active for one month. The data will then be analysed and reported. The full report will be available after August 2018
For more information please feel free to contact me at rebecca.paling.15@ucl.ac.uk
I hope that you would like to participate in this study and that you will find it a valuable experience.
If you are happy to participate, please click on the link below. You will then be directed to the questionnaire. Many thanks.
