Hi all As a mum to a 44 year old adhd’er I am exhausted and don’t know how I can go on giving support to the constant emotional outbursts, arguments, tears, tantrums and issues. I feel like I’m the only one who understands that she can’t help these behaviours and therefore the only person she can turn to. But I don’t want to encourage or make things worse. She says counselling and meds don’t help the emotional dysregulation but I feel she puts barriers there as she doesn’t want to change. Have others had any success in moderating emotional outbursts and if so what did you do? What meds help or make things worse? What type of counselling works if any? I am getting too old to help with this constant drama. I am now in my late 60s and can’t face many more years of this. Where can I turn for help?

She probably has more than 'just' ADHD plaguing her life.
I've no idea what but consider something like hyperinsulinemia and/or neuroglycopenia.
Let's assume the ADHD brain has much 'spikier' energy demands than a normal brain. What happens if the brain says 'FUEL NOW PLEASE' and the body says, 'EMPTY'.
I've no real idea but my best guess? The brain goes into FUCKYOUSHITSTORM mode. How long does this mode last? 1 to 3 hours or even days in the wrong environment.
BUT I'VE HAD TESTS SO THIS CAN'T BE IT?!
Yeh. No.
Suggestions:
1a. Ketogenic diet.
OR
1b. 99% of ADHDers don't have the inclination or the support network to make a ketogenic diet work so just get her to carry jellybabys around with her all the time. Pop a jellybaby when she feels that weird flat feeling, that pre-volcano feeling I'm guessing she is very familiar with. It's a 10 minute window where you know you're going to explode at the next thing that pisses you off.
2. Elvanse. Elvanse gives the brain time to think but INCREASES the demands on the body. More jellybabys.
3. Study Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. It's a picture that tells not 1,000 but 1,000,000 words.
