Hi there, first time posting on this forum and am pretty desperate for help.
I'm 22 years old (F) and was diagnosed with ADHD-pi back in March after basically crashing and burning in my third year of university (following years of procrastination/disorganisation self-sabotage haha). I was diagnosed by an educational psychologist through my uni's disability service - process was very thorough and all in all took about 3 hours and I was subsequently given a report which details my diagnosis and recommends treatment (meds). Although I've essentially been diagnosed, I haven't been able to receive treatment since I have been waiting to be referred to an NHS psychiatrist. The process has been pretty exasperating and I was told yesterday that I wouldn't be seen until November...which is pretty useless to me as I need help pretty urgently or else I risk totally screwing up my degree. Not only that but tbh my adhd is just eroding my enjoyment of life in general and killing my productivity. Anyway, I've decided that my only option really is to go private to ensure that I have a hope of being on the right track when uni starts again in just over a month. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with private diagnoses in Scotland - either Aberdeen, Edinburgh, or Glasgow preferably. Also, even if I were privately diagnosed I would need to ensure that I could be prescribed medication privately as my GP practice refuses to authorise prescriptions that aren't from an NHS psychiatrist (!!) so a shared-care agreement is a no-go for now unless I stay on the NHS waiting list. Any recommendations? Apologies for the long and rambly post but am pretty desperate, life feels like it's falling to bits.
