In our area the waiting list for a ADHD diagnosis is around 14 months. Far too long considering all of the issues we're facing. Our adult son really wants a prescription asap so that he will feel more able to continue with the final year of a degree course. Does anyone know of any private specilists in the York area?

York uses the Tuke Centre for it’s NHS patients, but it’s a private service and you can refer yourself www.thetukecentre.org.uk/services/autism/There’s also Dr Baskind in Leeds who is clinical lead in the NHS adult ADHD service and who takes private patients www.yorkshireadultadhd.co.uk/

Many thanks. Unfortunately the Tuke Centre have said that they cannot offer this service privately. They were the ones who referred our son for NHS assessment and told him the waiting list was 14 months. We'll check out Dr Baskind though.

Dr Baskind is really good, I saw him privately and I know a lot of people
in Leeds who have seen him on the NHS and he seems to offer the same quality of service,
which is reassuring. He usually sees private patients on a weekday evening, or on Saturday.

Thank you. I have passed on the details to my son. I've just revisted the Tuke Centre website and it still refers to their autism and ADHD private service so I'm really confused. My son has had 2 appointments with them and they'd only refer him onto the NHS waiting list. Apparently they're accepting no more private patients for the time being. I'm feeling very disappointed with them to be honest, especially since our son doesn't think he's in any fit state to recommence his course which begins in another couple of weeks. It all feels extremely urgent now.
