When you read the blurb on SCT you have to wonder why it's been lumped in with ADHD?
The only explanation that makes sense to me is that some of the people that are self-diagnosing (self-dx is a good thing) ADHD but when they present themselves to a psych well versed in such things, the 'presentation' simply doesn't match what they're used to seeing?
I guess at some point, someone started scanning brains and noticed this bunch of people weren't 'lighting up' in the normal way but their anecdotes were highly consistent with undiagnosed ADHD, so somebody decided it was a good idea to invent a whole new category called SCT.
I'm not a doctor but I love creating narratives to amuse myself about all this stuff. Is it possible that SCT is simply ADHD + Some Disorder that affects available energy / ATP yield?
I've no idea what but something along the lines of:
ADHD + Hyperinsulinemia?
ADHD + One of the many Inborn Errors of Metabolism?
ADHD +
If you know a good GP/psych then consider broaching the subject with them. If, like most of us, you feel like the NHS has abandoned you then there may be a few ways you can test this yourself.
### 1
Heat expands everything, including the slits in your blood vessels through which, er, nutrients pass through. If you have some sort of issue with these slits then the finest diet on the planet may not help you because it never gets used properly. Some of the tiniest versions of these vessels / slits are the Blood Brain Barrier which is like your brain's nutrient firewall.
Find a way to heat your body up GENTLY for around 30 minutes whilst sipping a cocktail of dextrose and creatine monohydrate. This should force those damn windows/slits in the vessels open and finally allow some nutrients to cross over.
If you, literally, feel like you've been reborn after those 30 minutes, you may have discovered something. A cross trainer or exercise bike is perfect for this test. Think 'light brow sweat' not 'sweating my tits off' kinda thing.
### 2
The slightly broken metabolism thing. There's three or four 'engines' or processes in the body that do the energy thing. If the main one is broken but not completely fucked, the body doesn't necessarily recognise this. It just cracks on with the broken engine instead of switching to one of the other ones. You might have a V8 engine with only one injector pushing fuel to it. You still have a V8 engine but you'll never get a speeding ticket (impulsivity) because you can't get out of first gear as you kangaroo down the road.
Ketosis. It's a long, annoying, highly irritating test initially but if you come out of that 10 - 15 day period with renewed vigour, suffice to say you may have discovered an issue.
These are my two naive suggestions. A good GP or hospital doctor should know this shit inside out and have much better suggestions to try and help you figure out WTAF is going on with your body and thus, your mind.
If you're a massive hypochondriac like me, you'll have stumbled across central sleep apnoea, too. Is it possible you've just never had a good night sleep in your entire adult life?
