Hello,
I am a Master's Psychology student at BPP university conducting research into ADHD, specifically the experiences of women who have been diagnosed in adulthood.
I am looking to speak to women who are willing to volunteer 60-90 minutes of their time to openly share their experiences in a one to one interview with me. Should you be interested please contact me via this forum or v.lea@my.bpp.com
a) project title: Working title: Women’s experience of being diagnosed with ADHD as an adult: An interpretative phenomenological analysis
b) project description:
The study is being carried out as part of a master’s level dissertation in psychology. The study will investigate how women experience being diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood. There is currently a limited amount of research dedicated to the perspective of adult women themselves, through their own first-person accounts. This is due to the fact that ADHD has long been perceived to be a children’s disorder, and more commonly diagnosed in boys compared to girls.
c) project objective
I aim to add to the body of literature on ADHD by analysing qualitative data that takes seriously the first-hand accounts of women who have recently been diagnosed. My intention is to learn from this perspective so as to understand the implications that a diagnosis can have – both positively and negatively - on their overall wellbeing. In doing so, I also aim to understand the limiting effects that the disorder can have when symptoms are overlooked, as well as to explore the potential for positive change to happen once it has been addressed. In turn, I aim to broaden the body of existing research that guides and influences NHS policies for ADHD diagnosis and treatment – which currently underrepresents adult women – to encourage earlier detection and better-informed treatment guidelines for this population.
d) the design/methods of the project

These interviews will be carried out in London either at your place of work, a coffee shop (at my expense) or a meeting room at BPP university in Holborn, Waterloo or Liverpool St. I am looking to book these interviews at a time of your convenience between November and early January.
