I've been trailling meds and am currently on Lisdexamfetamine which has been the best so far for me, but it does suppress my appetite and make me feel very adverse to the idea of food. While I don't mind eating a bit less than normal, at the moment even the idea of food is off putting. I end up skipping lunch and sometimes even dinner, i don't want to cook and end up feeling faint and shaky.
If there is food in front of me I will be able to eat it once I take the first bite, and then be fine eating it all. But I'm having trouble finding foods I can make myself even think about eating. I'm quite a big toast eater and have that for breakfast before I take my meds, and sometimes for dinner too these days. Other foods that have been okay sometimes are soup, smoothies, and sushi for some reason. I keep trail mix and dark chocolate to snack on at work which I reach for sometimes in the afternoon, but end up needing a bigger sugar hit and drinking coke or grabbing crisps / sweets to keep me going. I was okay with the idea of losing some weight due to medication as a not unwanted side effect, but I do still want to be able to eat a generally healthy diet. If this doesn't improve I may have to decrease my dose but hoping it will get better once I've been on it a while longer, it's been almost 2 weeks and still titrating.
Does anyone have any advise on dealing with the suppressed appetite, such as foods they find easier to stomach or ways to trick yourself into eating. I've never been much of a smoothie person but as I'm finding drinks okay I may try getting my calories that way. Have people found this side effect fades after a while or do you get used to it?
