Hi!
I am starting my final project as part of my doctoral thesis at The University of Chester and wonder if there are any ladies in the UK with a clinical diagnosis of ADHD that might be interested in helping me with it?
I am looking to recruit 6 women who are between the ages of 35 and 50 who
have received a fairly recent clinical diagnosis of ADHD (ie. a late diagnosis) and who would be willing to share their
experiences of life with the condition? I am looking to explore how the late diagnosis has impacted on you and your self-identity.
The project will be titled: ‘A narrative construction of self-identity in women diagnosed with ADHD
in adulthood’. A narrative is a type of methodology where the researcher asks questions in order to gain a life story. The results are written up with the researcher acting as more of a narrator to re-tell the story of the participant.
I would be looking for women who could participate in 1 or 2 face-to-face, semi-structured
interviews (aiming to last between 60 – 90 minutes). The first interview will aim to allow the
participant to share their experience of living with ADHD. The second interview will further explore aspects from
the first interview.
Characteristics of required participants:
• Female (ideally between 35 and 50 years old).
• Recent clinical diagnosis of ADHD (ideally in the past 5 years).
• UK resident (I am in the West Midlands but am willing to travel to you!)
Main outcome measures: This project will be written up and submitted to the University of Chester for viva
examination for the EdD qualification.
Name and status of researcher: Rachel Black, BSc. (Hons), PGCE, MA, PGCert, FHEA (4th year EdD student at The
University of Chester)
Name of funding bodies/ other involved organisations : None
Proposed start/ completion of project: January 2020/ January 2021
Details of ethical approval: Approval gained from the University of Chester Ethics Committee, Faculty of
Education & Children’s Services on 17th December 2019. - A copy can be shown to you.
Contact details: Rachel Black: 1624677@chester.ac.uk
Many thanks!
