I understand currently in the UK cannabis has currently no clinical value to the the medical community as a treatment for ADHD, that said it is and has been for years in the states, and many find significant improvements .
It has only been in the last few years medical marijuana has begun to take strides in the UK and the clinical significance on how it treats and improves various chronic and severe conditions is undeniable.
I understand this is the UK and were very slow and conservative, but why has it never been recognised as a potential treatment for ADHD or even trialled , when it has shown to have clinical improvements for patients in the states.
Patients of neurological conditions , who benefit massively from medical marijuana, should be issued a license to grow small amounts of marijuana at home

Hmm, I am not sure cannabis helps, it doesn't help me when I've tried it, makes my mind spacey and more scatty brain than usual & forgetting things & also makes me talk, talk in a jabber, jabber, jabber kind of way!

Advocates for marijuana as an ADHD treatment say the drug can help people with the disorder handle some of the more severe symptoms. The limited research indicates that it is most helpful for hyperactivity and impulsivity. addictionresource.com/addiction-and-rehab-hotlines/nebraska-numbers/ - i got this information from this resource about addictions and drugs. There is not sufficient evidence that marijuana is a safe or effective substance to treat ADHD

Hilarious to think it might improve ADHD. Plus it makes you want to eat ... often already a problem for those of us in search of an accessible dopamine/serotonin boost.
Disastrous for me - started smoking it at 16/17.
Slowed me down and made my symptoms (I now see) much worse - overly passive, narrowed horizons, very disorganised, spontaneous but not in a good way.
Unable to plan or organise life, manage money or make decisions in my own interest but impulsive and prone to making disastrous, life-changing decisions.
There's a reason it was called dope when I was young. It makes you dopey. For me, it was the opposite of therapeutic.

I dont like it one bit. It brings me down. Really I think youre either someone thats good with it or not, regardless of ADHD. Personally I find alcohol agrees with me much more. I dont find cannabis that clinically interesting - and the people I know that smoke become quite unpleasant while insisting it 'relaxes' them. It doesnt. It makes them bad company.

I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD after a lifetime of feeling like a square peg in a round whole. Never felt like I truly fitted in. Fast forward a lifetime of crap and here I am embarking on a new journey in the hope I can find a medication that helps. I have smoked for a very long time, self medicated really to try and ease my internal chatter and restlessness. It's bizarre how some people can smoke and be fine while for me it seems to make me more paranoid unproductive and keeps me very much my own head, if that makes sense. I think it because the THC in smoke these days is so high, if only it was legalised and then you can choose a particular strain, with much lower THC, it may work!

Prior to diagnosis, cannabis was the only drug that seemed to help. Research shows it does help with anxiety, it also helped me sleep and stopped rumination. It was a wonder drug. But I only took it in very small amounts (less than £4 a week). The down side is I do think it contributed to paranoia – as an earlier post suggested. But also as another earlier post suggested, if you get the right does, and the right mix of THC and CBD then I do thing it's therapeutically. I also note, private ADHD clinics do prescribe "medical cannabis" but it' ridiculously expensive, anyone know why ? You can't put a patent on cannabis, so is it tax or a patented processing cost ?

I wonder about this topic in terms of the different types of ADHD.. I am very inattentive and for me being stoned (I haven't used medical grade cannabis) is a disaster. It makes me hyper-self aware to the point of paranoia, more brain fog, more scattered, more forgetful, more social anxiety, less energetic, it doesn't help me sleep because it sends my brain in a spiral of nonsense (such as mentally doing a supermarket shop for an hour) I was a smoker for about 20 years before I learnt that it wasn't good for me... So those experiences make me pretty anxious about it being beneficial in anyway for my ADHD... Anyway I am wondering if it is more beneficial is you are more hyperactive or combined type? Any thoughts?

I'm predominantly inattentive, too. Having smoke in my mouth is kinda disgusting for me but I'd be willing to try anything for some clarity.

Hi all. I have just signed up to the site, 54, ADHD mixed, diagnosed 3 years ago, this is the first post I have made. I'm just looking for answers before I post amything, but as a cannabis user myself, I thought I would put my thoughts in. I used cannabis with alcohol since my early teens to wipe out the continual random thoughts I have had for most of my life and to help me stay in a social situation, pubs, restaurants both personal and for work. I lived in pubs until I stopped drinking overnight nearly 9 years ago. That is when my fun started, depression first, as my social life was 95+% based around drinking, the cracks started to showe, I lost friendships and family, after 6 years of therapy my diagnosis was made. I have just gone through another episode which had now resulted in me leaving my job of 8 years. I do not use alcohol, the stuff scares me, but I use cannabis, for calming effect. I know what strain I get, so I know roughly what effect it should have. Since I have been taking medication for ADHD, I am currently thinking of stopping my weed use. Yes it does help with control of panic and emotions, but it can also trigger panic attacks. I know I have a dependency of it, but currently my life has hit the bottom, I am coming back up, but cannabis is not the friend I once thoguht it was. I find the ADHD meds help calm me more than weed.

I am a non diagnosed ADHDer but with all the behviour patterns and i am now pushing 60 yrs old. I stopped drinking alcohol over 12 years ago as i found it really didn't help - especially with stupid impulsive behaviour .
I have been using cannabis since the age of 16 and used it daily for about 20 years. I alternate in my view on the use of cannabis and the effects on my behaviour. I find it easier to sit and watch tv, films etc after smoking a joint. I also find it useful when playing my guitar (my major non work activity). I even find it useful when doing certain tasks but only if i have started them. Some of the negatives of cannabis use is the lethargy it can impose - so if i havent started something due to my prevarication and worry about my impulsive beahviour - if i use cannabis it is even less likely ot happen. I think it also increases my laziness and I am overweight which is partly poor impulse control, partly laziness , partly THC indiced lethargy and Partly THC induced munchies . So i would advise caution on thinking that Cannabis can help with ADHD - it certainly isnt a panacea. One of the reasons I have made the first steps to being diagnosed with ADHD is a desire to cut my consumption of cannabis and to stop smoking tobacco - seeking help with stopping using drugs led me to an ADHD test and increased my understanding of why i may use cannabis more than i should (Or want?)

atm im in a long line waiting for adult adhd meds. suffered with it my whole life without knowing i had it (im 33 years old). I just thought i was a psycho or just a person who had lost control and confused. anyway last step before ending it all, is to call mental health team (never been brave enough to tell or call anyone about it ever) so i thought at least people will say i reached out for help and tried before ending it. I made the call and after 30mins of me telling this lady everything, she replys “its ok, everything you are saying tells me you have untreated adult adhd ” i was so confused thinking “i’m not like a naughty kid?!” but i was so happy because i could “get better?” again. I looked in to it and everything it describes is me! my partner then told me there is a 2-5 year waiting list for the rite meds! so knowing i could’nt wait longer without meds. Before the suicide thinking came back i decided to try vaping cannabis (micro dosing) as iv been reading alot about it helping people. And i was SHOCKED!! saved me! until i get my meds, cannabis is keeping me going. now i think and feel differently about any drugs users. also i forgot to add i was told my adhd is affecting my eating, i think my “stomach problems and pains” and “huge weight lose in a short time” are mis signals of hunger?. im still researching that part. anyone relate? .
