Hi everyone!
Really excited to have found this page.
I'm 32, and recently diagnosed (10 days ago). I have so many questions, and feel like the internet is a bit of a black hole for anything useful.
- Medication: I just started taking Elvanse. 30mg for a week, and I just upped to 40mg today. I've been told to keep increasing over a 4 week period until we find my 'tipping point'. I'm usually fairly stable mood wise, but over the last week have noticed a real swinging mood change - I've cried, I've felt really vulnerable, and most concerningly I've had such bad anxiety for the last 3 days that I was shaking like a leaf because I knew I needed to speak on a conference call. I am presuming that these changes are just part and parcel of my body adjusting to this new medication (probably in combination with the fact that 12 weeks of being locked down is enough to make anyone feel messy). Does anyone have any experience of this, any advice, just curious to know your experiences? My blood pressure is actually in the low end of normal, but my rest heart rate (usually 55-60bpm) seems to be sitting at 81bpm with occasional fluctuations over 100 for a few minutes then down again.
- Telling people: how have you found people have responded? I haven't decided yet if I am going to discuss this openly, particularly as I am still learning about it, but I do have this urge to tell everyone because suddenly so many things about me make sense and I want people to get it too! I wouldn't judge if someone told me, but I don't know what people's perceptions of this are and I work in a very corporate environment. Really interested to hear your stories!
- Finally... if there are any websites, articles, resources I should read or any general tips for a newbie getting her head around this I would love to hear from you!
Thanks in advance

Hi Robert
I'm really new to this as well and have not yet been prescribed medication so am on here looking for other people's experiences.
But with regards telling people, I found my ADD impulsivity won that dilemma for me anyway, and told my employers, friends and family even before I received the diagnosis. I had a range of responses such as: "we love your quirkiness and it doesn't matter what it's called" from friends, to employers tentatively asking if they can put any adjustments in place at work for me, to family grudgingly accepting that I might want to go on medication for what they see as just a part of me. Talking about it brings me closer to my Dad who also clearly has undiagnosed ADD.
I found some interesting articles about it in The Guardian newspaper if you search for the term and even the comments were helpful.
Hope that helps a bit.

Hi,
I have just been diagnosed with ADHD Inattentive subtype, aged 39, and started Xaggitin XL 18 mg (methylphenidate) 5 days ago. I have found that my anxiety can at times go through the roof, more so than before. I had my first full blown panic attack ever on the third day of medication. I can't tell you if it gets better but, yes, it seems for some of us anxiety does get worse, at least initially. I've also found just about everything has been worse; inattention, focus, memory, compulsions. Also I can't think abstractly as well as before. Feels like a part of me has been shut down. That part of me was responsible for a lot of the bad things too though.
Hoping things will even out soon. It's worth giving it a good go.

I'm also on Xaggitin XL 18mg and found the effects to be quite similar to what you have described. Have you changed medication or has the effects improved?
