Hello all
Complicated enquiry ahead! Would appreciate any input from anybody knowledgeable about the intricacies of Right to Choose.
I am looking into exercising my right to choose my preferred provider for Adult ADHD treatment in England.
Although I have been diagnosed both privately and through the local ADHD service (and still using the private service for prescriptions), I am looking into whether I am able to exercise my right to choose and receive NHS treatment exclusively from this same private service.
This service is also a qualified NHS provider alongside private care.
Having studied relevant information on the NHS Improvement website (https://improvement.nhs.uk/documents/60/choice_in_mh_services_service_users.pdf), I am aware that if you have already been seen by a provider and discharged, you can choose a different one if your GP thinks you need further treatment. I was discharged from the local ADHD service last year.
My GP agrees that I need further treatment and has listened to the information I have given, and is largely agreeable. However, the sticking point is that she wants to speak to the CCG firstly. As I understand it, I have the right to ask my GP to make the referral directly to the provider and not the CCG (in the form of an individual funding request that is likely to be turned down). My worry is that she knows she will 'pre empt' the funding request from the provider and this makes me nervous.
My question at this point is should I be concerned that she wants to go direct to the CCG first? I've asked her not to do anything until I have gathered more information and advice.
If any of this is unclear or needs further clarification or information, please ask.
Many thanks in advance
