Hi there,
I'm new to this forum. Received a diagnosis in 2017, combined ADHD via South London and Maudsley ADHD service. I have been struggling with mental health issues for a long time, and my journey eventually arrived at ADHD. However, the NHS mental health services have been obstructive and reluctant to support me any further, have denied me access to therapy for Anxiety or any other issue in fact, saying they think I have had enough therapy and not allowed anymore(!) Referral for ADHD CBT was made via CCG but I changed GPs and apparently that effects the referral. So that fell through. Exasperated.
I have been unemployed for a long time and struggling with a combination of ADHD and related/unrelated mental health issues, low income and desperately trying to get out of cycles of crisis-recovery-crash-and-burn, a victim mentality and dependence on the state but then realising that regardless of my employable status, I'm being forced to conform to conventions that are not realistic or sustainable. I'm just not wired that way but for some reason that isn't acceptable.
We're told we're sick and yes of course, that is going to happen in a dysfunctional society where if we can't keep up with the rat-race we are somehow unworthy or shameful. That is the real sickness, imo. “It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” ADHD is a double edged sword, if we are treated right and given the support we need, we can turn it to our advantage rather than be imprisoned by it, or so many entrepreneurs claim. But where is the education and the support? I've been finding it very difficult to wade through so much internet flotsam but ultimately many of these websites claiming to support people are more like veneers with very little substance. It's not just ADHD related sites, its all of them relating to privately outsourced services for mental health and other related issues. What's going on I wonder?
Is there anyone out there that is affordable and reliable and good at providing support to an adult with adhd and mental health issues? Where do I need to look? Can anyone post any recommendations or relate to my experiences?
