Hi all! I (a 33 year old woman) was diagnosed recently with ADHD and my specialist started me on 30mg elvanse. This is to be continued for 7 days before moving up to 50mg after.
I am on day 3 and I really don't feel great at all. Day one was amazing, I felt a real clarity of thought and ability to focus on one thing at a time for I guess the first time ever, but since then it's been bad. I feel high as a kite for the first few hours of the day and then I crash, and today my heart rate has been around 100 even when consistently resting. I've been having mild yet constant palpitations for a few months, which is being investigated by a cardiologist (who so far thinks everything is fine and that it's probably just lifestyle stuff, am awaiting the results from a 24hour ECG), but it has RAMPED up to the point of feeling intolerable with the elvanse.
I don't know if it's relevant but I have a history of excessive recreational use of stimulant drugs (many many years ago), part of me wonders whether my body just can't take stimulants any more.
I emailed my specialist and told her everything and she said what I am experiencing is fairly common and that I should take it easy and stick with it, but I just don't feel right at all. It feels like it's excaserbating my ADHD symptoms rather than helping them (aside for that first amazing day), and the heart side effects are so stressful they're setting off anxiety, which obviously is going to make that worse. I replied and said I am stopping taking it because I am just exhausted and worried all the time, and she is going to call me tomorrow to discuss next steps.
I guess I was just wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience and what you did next. I'm really disappointed as so many people I know have had a great experience with this drug, and the first day was so promising, but I just feel uneasy and worried all the time.
Thanks so much in advance for your replies, and any soothing messages will be gratefully received!! Also, if someone could reassure me that this stuff will have left my system by tomorrow morning that would be excellent because I really don't want another day like this.
