I can't believe it, got my diagnosis this week. Starting Elvanse today! I'm a uni student, been struggling the whole time. Thought I was a bad person, a faker? I think I'm ready for the rest of my life now:))
Is anyone else in or has been in a similar boat? I'd love to chat. I don't have any close friends who have ADHD so this is so new to me. Also always felt like the immature kid in my friends.
Would also love to hear about people's experiences with medication/ therapy!

Good to see you are so positive and upbeat regarding your future. I would be interested to hear how you get on in the initial stages with the meds and noticeable differences in normal life/study etc.?

Good to see you are so positive and upbeat regarding your future. I would be interested to hear how you get on in the initial stages with the meds and noticeable differences in normal life/study etc.? I mean, realising after all these years that everything I thought was wrong with my character was just ADHD? And there are so many real ways to deal with it.. it's definitely good news to me! I've only taken the meds a couple days, right now I'm on a titration of Elvanse starting at 30mg. The only way I can describe the difference is that I feel glued to everything I do. Like my eyes become holes that just stare at my work and things are actually going in, and my body stays still. I also feel more optimistic when I'm on it (evidently). But I definitely still get sidetracked quite a bit, although less than before. It seems that my focus is improved, but what I focus on is still up to me so it's still really easy to get focused on other things. It goes away in the afternoon so maybe I need a higher dosage idk. Other than that, I'm still me, my personality and everything all stay the same. Hope this helps:)

Excellent, I can only imagine that will be of benefit studying at uni too.
I am currently waiting on an assessment, although I'm unsure as to when that will be, and with my previous experience of anti-depressants due to 'anxiety and depression' from my early teens, I'm slightly reluctant to go down the medication route if the GP diagnoses ADHD, so to hear how it improves things for you is good to hear!

Hi Catz Really pleased your having some positive changes with the meds, Ive just been diagnosed with Psychiatry UK, it was very evident I had ADHD but my problem now is getting meds that I've not started on from my GP, he states there not allowed to hand out stimulants as you have in my area being Nottinghamshire, may I ask what County your in ? and has your GP agreed to supply you, I know the psychiatrist are able to supply during titration but what after you get referred to your GP.
Thanks for any input hun. \

He prescribed the meds immediately and I picked it up from a pharmacy. After titration I could link up my GP to the prescription but for now its all out of pocket. Been really lucky to have such a speedy process but it's expensive. I felt like I had no other way at the time. Really hope it works out for u.

Really hope it works out Hi Catz, Im paying for my treatment as I want to feel better soon, but was told I could get my GP involved and get NHS to pay for the rest, just trying to save what money I have, but after speaking to my GP and him saying he can't supply me the stimulant that has really thrown a spanner it the works, I could continue with Private, pay a fortune out then not get any from the GP, It sounds like your meds are working for you which is just what I like to read, well done, Ive sent a message to my private care regarding the situation. WHAT ABOUT THIS ONE !!!! Had a call from my surgery receptionist a couple of days ago, she said one of the Gps not the one I spoke to about Meds, asked if I could recommend the private psychiatrist as he had a lady patient wanting some treatment and was not willing to wait for NHS !!!!! Im chasing this situation up this coming week, Take care hun xxx Ray
