Hi, firstly I should say I'm not diagnosed ADHD, just suspect it. I do struggle with depression/anxiety - so could just be anxiety based.
I just wanted to know if this is something familiar to anyone. I'm not a very confident driver generally, it makes me anxious. Sometimes I love it and I'm fine, other times I feel like I shouldn't be on the road.
My issue seems to be one of concentration. I feel like I'm either concentrating on everything around me all at once, noticing everything, which means I'm not concentrating properly on the road, or I'm thinking too many random things, like I worry I might suddenly turn the wheel and drive over the pavement killing pedestrians, as if my arms might suddenly get a mind of their own. Sometimes even blinking makes me feel like in that nanosecond my eyes are closed I'm going to miss something important and cause an accident. Constantly overthinking everything when driving is what causes the anxiety.
I should say that if I know I'm already feeling a bit wild in the head I will avoid driving, I don't want to be a danger on the road.

Nope, can't relate.
Love driving. Faster I'm going, the more engaged I am.

No same as @boost the faster I drive the more I concentrate
Love driving like that feeling of focus
Don't like traffic or queuing though!
that's probably why I like motorbikes so much (no queues just cut and weave)
Guess we're all different though what 1 person loves another hates
For example I've heard some of us ADHDers love reading and can get lost in a book 4 days personally I couldn't concentrate on a book 4 more than 10mins
Guess it depends on what gets ure juices flowing

Same as boost and speedy1 for me.
I was always been a petrol head and looked out the fun back roads to throw the car down like Colin McRae, this had me focussed but also strangely 'at peace', ultimately though it led to a ban when I was caught speeding.
Since then I have calmed down, mainly because I had to as my car is essential, and travel all over the place which brings with it HUGE frustration and monotony at the endless dull miles, especially when busy, and more worryingly tends to be done on autopilot where I can all of a sudden realise I've driven for miles without realising how I got there if that makes sense?.
The motorbike, however, provides that hit of acceleration, focus, and peace required to safely negotiate the roads, similar to when I started driving.

I get anxious aswell sometimes when driving especially in busy traffic or somewhere I haven't driven before. It is getting better over time as I get more experience.

I passed my test over ten years ago and have only driven a handful of times. I am always scared of cyclists. And other drivers. I had a hypnosis cd that really helped calm my nerves but I lent it to someone and never saw it again. I don’t think I’m allowed to drive with the meds I currently take. I think I am supposed to let DVLA know though which I haven’t done yet :/
