Hi, just looking for info or guidance or anyone else’s experiences, my partner suffers with mental health and was recently sectioned. From this he was assessed for ADHD and diagnosed! He was put on concerta xl tablets at 18mg once a day! He’s been on these since last week, the dose to me seems very low considering he’s a big guy. I kept a log of how he was feeling on the tablets and they aren’t really having an impact, if anything he seems to be worse now than before. He doesn’t sleep or anything. He’s been moved to another mental health unit and is now been told he doesn’t have mental health issues and that his medication will be reviewed in 4 weeks.
Anyone’s partners going through similar? I’m struggling with how to help him as he is suicidal and no one is listening to him.
Thanks

Often there are things co-morbid with ADHD, such a bipolar (for example). ADHD can lead to burn out, which causes a crash (what use to be called a nervous break down) but this is more a mental exhaustion thing. In such cases yoga, meditation, walks in nature anything that can relax him, help. With medication, I'd stick with the experts, it's complicated and based on medical history and other medications. Keep in contact with mental health services at all cost, and don't be disheartened if there's no quick fix. If it was a breakdown of some sort, chances are it will take a long time to recover from. Keep a diary to notice small improvements month by month, that can help with motivation. I hope this helps and good luck.
