I telephoned my local diagnostic services yesterday and they've accepted my GP's referral and put me on the ADHD pathway first, which apparently is standard when someone is referred for both ADHD and autism. On the referral questionnaire I think that I scored quite highly for both ADHD and autism and I'm wondering if anybody here has experience of "dual diagnosis" or autistic traits that they recognise in themselves. I don't know much about ADHD but I've been wondering about autism since my nephew was diagnosed about 10 years ago.

Hi, whatnots2015. I had autism (ASC/Asperger/whatever) diagnosed first, about 5 years ago as an adult, and more recently ADHD. I believe increasingly NHS diagnostic services are combining the diagnostic process for both, which makes sense to me. Psychiatrists I've consulted say its difficult to disentangle one from the other. Socially, I came over as strange even to professionals, but as I get older ADD is a bigger obstacle than ASC. I'm kind of in the middle of a triangle of ASC, ADD and depression.
One of my big problems is 'executive dysfunction', which can mean lots of things, but in my case I don't do what I intend to for no obvious reason. Distraction is part of it, and in fact I shouldn't be posting here right at the moment...
Anyway, good luck. There are good books etc out there about adult ADHD, but I don't know enough to recommend one.
