Dear Sir or Madam,
I am Professor of Computer Science and Head of the Human Computer Interaction Group at the University of Bremen. I am the supervisor of Ms Evropi Stefanidi, a PhD student who is conducting research in the domain of technologies for children with ADHD, currently looking for interview participants for one of her studies.
In this context, we would like to interview: (i) ADHD professionals (therapists, educators, psychologists that deal with children with ADHD), (ii) school teachers/educators of children with ADHD, and (iii) parents of children with ADHD. Participation is entirely voluntary and all data will be anonymized.
The interviews are scheduled to take place between the 28th of June 2021 and the 16th of July 2021, but if necessary, this can be rearranged to facilitate participants’ availability.
If you identify with any of the aforementioned groups [(i), (ii) or (iii)], and you are interested in participating in our study, please feel free to contact us (see details at the end of this message).
Please find below a brief description of our work.
Thanking you in advance for your time and help, we remain at your disposal for answering any questions.
Sincerely,
Professor Johannes Schöning

Brief description of the study
Background & Motivation
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders with an occurrence of approximately 5% worldwide. Children with ADHD exhibit symptoms across two broad areas of executive functioning; inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity.
With regard to interventions and assistive technologies to support children with ADHD, it is important to consider not only the child as a sole actor, but the entire care ecosystem of caregivers: parents, siblings, teachers, therapists, etc. In particular, it is crucial to understand how these technologies could be used in collaboration with children’s caregivers, who can offer support, and motivational or emotional scaffolding.
Both industry and research have made efforts towards supporting children with ADHD by means of assistive technologies. These assistive technologies typically aim to help and address challenges related to ADHD symptoms. Our research work aims to explore the following:
1. To what extent such technologies provide children with ADHD with inclusive systems, which not only aim to treat ADHD symptoms, but also to provide them with playful technology that caters to their needs, considering their individual characteristics.
2. Existing assistive technologies have different contexts of use (physical spaces in which they are employed). We want to investigate to what extent the contexts of use of assistive technologies for children with ADHD overlap and the connections that exist between them.
3. How current approaches include the actors of the care ecosystem when developing and using technologies for children with ADHD, aiming to better understand how we can design technologies that take into consideration the entire care ecosystem.
Study
To that end, we performed (a) a systematic literature review of assistive technologies and design guidelines for children with ADHD in the Human Computer Interaction literature, and (b) we want to conduct semi-structured interviews with ADHD professionals, parents and teachers of children with ADHD. Our aim is to answer our research questions, as well as to discover any additional emerging issues or themes and try to form an understanding regarding the specific challenges involved in bringing together all caregivers of a child with ADHD.
Your participation
We invite you to contribute to our study, by participating in a one-hour, semi-structured online interview. At the beginning of the interview, you will be asked to sign a consent form, where the process and your rights will be explained, along with an assurance that your data will stay anonymous, and that you can take a break or stop participating at any point during the study. Additionally, you will be asked to provide your consent to record the interview, in order for us to be able to make a transcript and analysis of your answers.
After that, we will ask you some demographic questions, and then start with the interview questions. At any point during the study you are welcome to ask any questions.
