Primary Carers' Experiences of Children with ADHD in relation to Pedestrian Skills
1. What is meant by pedestrian skills?
They are the skills required to walk safely in the community for the purpose of moving one location to another including (but not limited to) choosing where to walk, selecting where, when and how to cross a street, and identifying the approaching vehicles. So, the study aims to explore the experience of children with ADHD in relation to road crossing and walking in the community from parents' perspectives in order to understand if there is any concern regarding the risk of involvement in roadside accidents.
2. Purpose of this research project
This study is being undertaken for a PhD qualification. Crossing the road can be a difficult task for all children, but we are particularly interested in how children with ADHD cope with this. The overall aim is to explore the perspectives of primary carers of children with mild to moderate ADHD in order to gather their experiences of pedestrian risks.
3. Participants
Parent or carer of a child with ADHD who is:
• Aged between 7 – 11 years
• Diagnosed as having mild or moderate ADHD
• Living in the UK
• Navigating the community with you on a regular basis
4. What will taking part involve?
Your participation will involve taking part in an online semi-structured interview, using Microsoft Teams or an equivalent alternative (e.g. Zoom) if you do not have Microsoft Team. The interview will last approximately 45 - 60 minutes. The interview will be audio recorded for the purposes of transcription in order to enable further analysis. If after reading the information contained in this information sheet, you wish to proceed, a consent form will be sent to you and the interview will be scheduled. Bear in mind that you are free to withdraw at any time and please make sure you choose a quiet place, free of distraction with good internet connection for the interview. You will not be paid for taking part.
