Hi everyone,
I'm new here. On waiting list for ADHD/ASD evaluation on the NHS, potentially pursuing RTC if I can get my head round it.
Also started with (private) CBT with a practitioner who specialises in the conditions.
However, I'm really not coping at the moment. Anxiety through the roof, snappy, not managing much more than survival.
And I have young kids and we're looking to move house, so really I can't afford a breakdown right now.
I have a phone appointment with my GP tomorrow to discuss medication. Since I don't have a diagnosis, I'm assuming he will offer something for anxiety or depression.
So my question is, are there any that work best for us? Anything to avoid?
Thanks, Kixi

Hello and welcome. Any luck with the GP?
I've tried a bunch of antidepressants and SSRIs for depression. For me, the least useless may have been fluoxetine, although I only really noticed any improvement after I stopped it (it persists in the body for days or weeks). Sertraline was sedating which made doing stuff even harder. Paroxetine and venlafaxine are both known for their withdrawal effects, and I've seen venlafaxine trigger hypomania in other people. Everyone's different. The psychiatrist has mentioned antidepressants alongside the methylphenidate I'm taking; since the latter seems to turn low mood into unproductive anxiety, I might try that.
Hope the CBT is helping and you get some everyday support with family and self-esteem and positive activities and whatever triggers the anxiety.

Hi there,
Re: Right to Choose. I have just had an assessment with Psychiatry-UK. They have templates of the letters to send to your GP. Just add GP’s name and your own name and address. They make it very simple. I got an assessment with a psychiatrist in three months. Best wishes
