I had an appointment about 5 weeks ago now with the nearest ADHD specialist, and by the end of it the psychiatrist agreed that I have ADHD-PI. He spent a long time telling me about all of the various side effects of medication, and then told me that as I'm doing a degree I should have a research after the appointment and decide based on that. He mentioned psychosocial intervention too, which I agreed to be referred to.
I've had to ask the practice to send me a copy of the letter sent to my GP and one I can give as an official letter to confirm the diagnosis - they didn't send them to me before I asked, even though I got promised they would - and I find the following written in the letter to the GP:
It seems disingenuous to write that I'm "not keen" on medication despite me saying nothing of the sort, just carefully listening to a rather long lecture on medication side effects. After a lot of research and a long think (...5 weeks ) I've decided I would like to try medication and see whether it is worth the potential side effects. What should I say to the specialist? Should I ask them for a different psychiatrist since I feel like it would be awkward to go back to the same one after he wrote this? If anyone has any pointers that would be great. Thanks.

I discussed the manifestations of ADHD at length and the various treatment options available. mbr was not keen on stimulants.
I discussed the structure and content of psychosocial intervention, and he was in agreement therefore I have referred him.
[...]
I have offered him lifestyle modifications including eating healthily and having good sleep hygiene. Once he has finished his psychosocial intervention he will be discharged back to your care.
