Hello
I have not been formally diagnosed. My GP referred me to a psychiatric nurse last year who felt I displayed the symptoms of inattentive adhd. He referred me to a psychiatrist for assessment but the wait time in my area is 5 years.
I am in my late 50s and feel that I can't spend the next 5 years waiting for an assessment.
My main problem is severe procrastination both at work, home and socially. Every 6 weeks or so I slowly grind to a complete halt, feeling completely overwhelmed and can do nothing, my mind flitting from one thing to another. I think living on my own probably makes it worse. I feel what might help me is to have someone see me on a semi regular basis to work with me on getting started on cleaning, a work assignment or organising my time. Does anyone know where I might access this type of service for ADHD?

Sorry- never got around to answering.
"Access to work " might be able to help. In theory adjustments can be made without a formal diagnosis. But IANAL (I'm not a lawyer).
Have you spoken to ADDIS. They might be able to point you I right direction. Apologies if you have already tried all of these ideas.

I relate to this kind of logjam and slough of despond. 'Overwhelm' is a noun now.
Access to work is indeed one possible service. I also have a kind of support worker who vists irregularly and is a kind of accountability for getting tasks done. This happened because I complained about no access to occupational therapy, which is recommended in guidelines and patient leaflets.
My recommendation: when your annoyance about waiting lists and services gives you enough energy to complain, do so. Email can work as well as a letter.
