Regards

Be carful, they only usually give dizaepam short term for few days as its very addictive. When I as really bad last year the doctor prescribed it for me but would only give me three days worth as it would be too addictive any longer than that. It certainly chills you out like having a large bottle of wine. I was totally chilled, it was like the world was going on around me but I wasnt part of it. But if it helpsthen good, just take caution, thats my advice for what its worth.

My mother's a diazepam popper (yrs), makes her mood-swings horrendous, they're relaxing, & i imagine good for their cause, but i've seen the long term mental health side-effects, not pretty. U certainly couldn't have a 'normal 'day on one, no way could u drive etc. My mum used to give them to me when i was younger, shocking! But i wouldn't take anything with my meds now, not a good combo?? U're partner will find the add meds will chill him down too, hope the assessment comes through soon for you x

Amanda, diazepam is adictive but there are lots of factors, dose ie; what mg you're husband is on? I find after being on them for a week or two they build up in my system and there is a horrid lagg effect I find valium help with the effects on hypomania on sleep better than any sleeping pill. Not having the benifit of all the facts to the reasoning to why you're husbands g.p has put him on valium He would have had good reason too! In some cases doctors get people addicted to diazepam on perpouse! Phil

Hello Meggie, Simone, Phil .. thank you for your replies, hoping to have assessment date today.. he is on 5mg and was taking them 4 x per day now 3 x per day since mid December. He insisted the doc gave him something to calm down they were reluctant but are doing it until he gets assessed - he still doubts he has it i am more and more convinced he has and has it worse than me... I feel he is being unreasonable over various things however i am not raising anything at the moment its like its all me and not him then i question myself but i am pretty sure i am seeing things correct - its keeping the anxiety down however he has gone from 5miles per hour to 110mph and is going faster than me now and i am quick (I am not on meds yet) whats the long term mental effects Sim? Nightmare does this get easier?

Hi amanda, adult adhd has been linked to sleep apnoea and contra indications to diazepam is sleep apnoea syndrome so that's somthing to be carefull about! Tigger the main problem with diazepam is addiction! With the ssri's you take the side effects are pancreatitis, hepititis, jaundice the list go's on and on The risks of taking and withdrawal of sertaline make diazepam seem pretty harmless Phil

Its a balancing act all tablts have sid ffects but you hav to balance the low risk of side effects with what your quality of life is like without them, thats th question? It does get easier I promise it just takes time.xxx

My Daughter has ADHD and has been on Concerta XL for the past 2 years. They have now discovered that Concerta has given her Angina (she is only 20 and not over weight nor a smoker!!)so they have to take her off Concerta and are now putting her on Diazepam for at LEAST 4 weeks which both my wife and and I are not happy about! At present they say there is no alternative until further tests can be carried out which will only be done when she returns to the specialist live in college she attends after the Easter break!!! Very concerned about the time she has to be on Diazepam!!!!

concerta xl is not supposed to be stopped abruptly or it can cause a withdrawal syndrome which may include anxiety, restlessness etc.
clearly if there is a medically important reason for stopping abruptly this may outweigh the need to avoid difficult withdrawal symptoms, and diazepam may be medically indicated to assist with withdrawal when it's unavoidable.
i wonder whether your daughter would be happy to have a further conversation with the doctor who has made the change in medication (perhaps alongside you, so that you can ask the questions which are understandably concerning you)?

I know its a old topic that's just started up again but I see the word DIAZEPAN in the title
Before I new ADHD could go into adult hood ( late last year ) I thought I loosing my mind I had real bad anxiety but then out of no where a bad panic attack I thought it was a heart attack ( I'm a smoker and not lived a clean life but only 29 years old ) so rushed to hospital I am a fitness freak now and the doctors said I am fit and healthy which made me think I was silly and mad I got told I need to see mental health team about my anxiety who h was a month away but in the Mean time hospital gave me fluoxetine to help with the anxiety till I see mental health.
I AM GETTING TO THE POINT HONEST ! bare with me haha.
The fluoxetine side affects killed me for nearly 6 weeks I could not leave my bedroom or house I got bad my hole family was worried never been like that. Day before my meet with mental health my other half called and said I could not go I could not get out of bed when they found out what meds I was on on they sent over to my doctor to give me a box of diazepam they was only 2mg each pill but she said I may need to do a few up to 6mg over the space of the day to get to her but it will help.
I took 1x 2mg pill and I was back to normal it was a pill sent down from the gods it was WOW. Next day I went to mental health no problems it was then when my psych was talking to me and ask me and my over half if I or anyone in my family have ADHD as of the way I was acting I said yes my dad , his brother , my cousin , and my little girl has it she just smiled and said she wants to set up a screening
NOW she ask me how I was getting on with the fluoxtine I said bad until last night but one of your team gave me diazepam and now I feel great. SHE DID NOT LOOK HAPPY !! she said keep that box but no more as that will be my life line in a emergency if I had a bad panic attack but doing them with ADHD and addictive personality it will just be trouble in the long run I said to her yer ok see you in a few months for my screening.
BLOODY HELL SHE WAS RIGHT !! within days taking one turned into 3 then up to 5 -6 a day I then started to worry about running out so instead of going to her as i new she would not be happy , I went to my doctor and said I was told to ask him for a repeat on them he was not happy but done it this once so I had nearly 8 weeks worth again. I tried not to do them but the side affects of the fluoxetine was killing me so I needed them to just leave the house.
On new years day I could see this turning into a problem so I made a choice to stop the fluoxetine as the side effects was making still need the diazepam. I done the diazepam for a few more days then called my psych and said I have stopped as I just needed diazepam everyday on the fluoxetine I can't handle it I can live the way I have been for a few more months until I sort out what meds for the ADHD after the screening but the fluoetine is killing me and my day to day life. She ask how many I have left I said a box I wanted to be honest but I said if honest its the only thing that helps with my anxiety attacks just in case I needed them
I still have the same box now full ready for a emergency yes I have had a lot of anxiety problems since but not to need them. But my psych knows I have them just in case and is happy for me to have them just in case until I get ADHD meds BUT NOT HAPPY FOR ME TO USE THEM DAILY !!!!
So what I will say is yes they are great they are super great at first but the next time and the time after when its not as good at its job as you need more it puts you on a Downer.
Did it help with ADHD and anxiety YES at first after a few days it started to not have the same affect you needed a lot more to feel more normal
I think it is a true drug sent down from the gods if used right for me anyway I now know if I ever get a bad anxiety or panic attack I can do a 1x 2mg ( yes only 2mg ) a it will calm me down , that's a nice feeling knowing and its helped without taking them
But only in a attack would I ever do one. Never for just day to day stress or ADHD thinking would I do them NEVER !
That is coming from someone who went from bad side effects of over meds who could not leave a bedroom for 6 weeks due to dizzyness , hot sweats , fidgets , muscle twitches , could not eat or sleep. To then doing 1x 2mg and feeling super great BUT THEN WITHIN A WEEK JUST LIKE MY PSYCH SAID NEEDING 3x 2mg ( 6mg ) pills at one time to try and get the same effect
You may not need help now but just a bit of info how I was on them in case some one comes a long in the future looking.
THEY ARE GREAT BUT I WOULD NOT EVEN SAY SHORT TERM COUPLE OF DAYS MAX !!! But in a emergency for anxiety / panic attack ( I can only comment on that side of things ) they are great for me.
Please note even if i never went on ADHD meds I would not ever need to do diazepam The only reason I needed them to start with was due to fluoxetin side effects. I only have them now as I was worried about the side effects when I stopped fluoxetine but I forgot I had them until I see this topic
Sorry again for long post in old topic but topic caught my eye.
