And phil, people are arsewholes. Everyone is. You, me, that nice woman down the street who doesn't shut her curtains when she gets changed. I can't remeber what my point was going to be but just take it easy... I no it's easier said than done... At the moment if someone gets on my case I find the best action is to just fuck off out somewhere (I say fuck off out because it sounds more manly than run away). Oh yeah people get annoyed with people that don't do what they want.

No shit my ex girl friend lives on st pauls avenue across from the church! not to say I like Wigan... Just happy to see that someone knows it exists! I'm kinda a loner. Not the cool wolverine loner... More the drinking alone kind of loner... I just get bored to easiliy with people. The feeling that no one truely understands me. I think I'd really get on with someone else with ADHD. I think the language would be the same but there would be a lot more of it, and the conversations wouldn't have a specific topic just a multitude of random topics.

:PThis might take a while lol. Well while yr waiting to see the GP, psychiatrist or specialist use the time to hyperfocus on ADHD. I spent hours on the internet researching the condition, its treatment and cognitive therapy. By the time I got the diagnosis I understood every aspect of my behaviour. I then started to teach my partner what it was all about so he could learn to live with me. Tips like leave the room when I go off on one, I tend to notice him walking away and its calms me down a bit quicker. He now understands you can not win an argument with someone with ADHD, he also now knows I am always right anyway lol. The folks at work are used to me after 17 yrs so other than give them a quick run down I haven't had to do much there. I saw the job therapist and he gave me some help to deal with my procrastination issues. I have got that under better control, I set goals or if I really can't bring myself to do it I ask for help with it or even use my charms to get someone to do it for me The main point is I accept the way I am, I can't change, why should I, if you have a problem with it all I can say is, 'OH WELL'. Finally don't beat yrself up it really isn't worth it.

I like being around other people with ADHD because its funny and because we all talk at each other at 100 miles an hour and change topics all the time and can follow each other when ordinary people would have long given up and I like that I don't have to explain everything, it can be quite mad though and a bit tiring. Other times if the mood is a bit quieter being around other people like me can the most relaxing because of being more comfortable not being different.
Sherry is right, ride it, enjoy it, it has its up sides as well as its downs. Creativity, fast thinking, high energy, interesting, keep looking at the good stuff.

Oh and for those of you that haven't got a diagnosis yet, once you have you will feel a mixture of emotions, anger at what you may feel is a wasted life, self pity and a feeling of loss. It is a roller coaster, but if you do as I have said a couple of replys up you may be ok. A diagnosis is not the ultimate answer/fix all, but the end of one life and the start of the next. You have to grab it by the throat and take it on. We are more special than all those boring, ordinary saps out there. If there were more of us they would be £$%&d

Shocking !! Friend of mine got assessment to Maudsley and is now being told that she did have ADHD when she was younger but has grown out of it ! I know how she struggles and have advised her to send a letter of appeal to Prof Asherson and a copy to the lady consultant and her GP ! My other friend had to do the same ! Its a farce !

We can't change the world, but we can enjoy it!! There are up sides to ADHD, creativity, lateral thinking, mental sense of humour and lots more I know why I am the way I am, but despite my difficulties, I know I also have talents lots would love to have. So, where once I raged against the world and the unfairness and injustice in it. Now, I just live life on my terms! And if they don't like it? Well they can bog off

I was lucky, I found a job doing something that I can hyper focus on. Well most of the time. Your best bet is find something you enjoy and can get absorbed in. Still there's downfalls... You'll always have to check and double check your work. At work I'm told daily about spelling, grammar and other silly mistakes I make, seems like the harder I try to make sure I've done everything right, the more I end up getting wrong.
As for the abuse, try surrounding yourself with different people. People get annoyed with me but I don't get a constant barrage of abuse... Can you not explain to these people what it's like to have ADHD?

I have a job thats different every day and all the ppl I work with like my cheeky personality. I am good at covering up my mistakes and when I can't I just act like a dizzy bird lol. Phil once I was like you angry, confused and living in a black hole. Life is a roller coaster and you are never geting off all you can hope for is less ups and downs. You have to learn all you can about ADHD and yrself. Look into yrself and you may find the answers. Stop trying to fight it and accept it. If you need help to get started then you may need to try meds. I take them from time to time when I go through a rough patch or to help me cope when work is tough. What is it that pisses you off the most about the way you are?

i accept i have ADHD it's just every one around me can't and thats the point! i get jibes like " you ain't got ADHD when theres something you want to do" it's like if you told some one you had epilepsy or diabities you would get some apathy or empaphy or they would have a family member or friend with it with ADHD in adults the information is not out there nobodies heared of it!

I totally agree phil, people tell me calm down chill, do one thing as a time. If only it were that simple. Ive had a life of put downs its hard at times, and your right very little understanding. People think its somthing that naughty children and troublesome teenagers have.

Anyone who is dumb enough to say ADHD doesn't exist in front of me gets the full lecture, by the time I have finished with them they either believe or are too scared to say otherwise smiley face with gnashed teeth argggggg.

Phil wrote......
So, we know it's called novelty seeking behaviour as well...
My question is....why do we "not have ADHD" when we do "that something" that we can do......
Examples......cars....diy..... cooking......building computers.....er....knitting.....whatever it is........these examples..and more.. seem to occupy an ADHD mind very nicely.....
However, why do those things give us the dopamine boost that I'm presuming they give?
Why why why why? What is so special about the things that seem to occupy us?
Is it going to be simply that, if we did a survey, the topics that occupy us, are simply doing the job because they require an intense amount of concentration which - conflictlingly and paradoxically - should be the last thing that we are capable of?.
(note: we = you as I'm still waiting for consultation)
Am I making any sense here?
