I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that its quite obvious that Charlie Sheen has ADHD? Apart from being hyperactive, impulsive, no self control etc, its the comment he made to that woman who interviewd him where if he were to give someone else his brain for the day, they'd have to hand it right back because they wouldn't be able to deal with it.
What really bothers me about this is that the Media and everyone else are all convinced that he has Bipolar disorder, even though he has never really shown any signs of depression. Its as though having adult ADHD is such a ridiculous notion that its not even worth suggesting as most people believe it doesn't exsist, even though theres a living breathing example right in front of them.
Does anyone else agree with this theory or am I just overthinking this?(when I should in fact be cleaning the house right now lol) If he was ever diagnosed with adult adhd it would do more to raise awareness of the disorder than everyone elses efforts put together.

he's not depressed, or wasn't, in that interview, because he was in a manic phase. you aren't depressed at all in a manic phase, you feel on top of the world, apparently.

I know what you're going to say but the guy is an alcoholic too. That causes severe vitamin B12 deficiency and symptoms of mania/psychosis. He's obviously also been living on a cocktails of drugs and so all bets are off. His brain has probably shrivelled to the size of a walnut. He's almost certainly caused himself permanent neurological damage. Some of it may be reversible but he probably NEEDS to be sectioned for his own good, examined and treated.
His father was also a serious alcoholic and druggie. Given the hereditary nature of ADHD, there's obviously a possibility of it being in his family. It'll be interesting to hear of any diagnosis.

I find it very possible too, that Charlie Sheen could be struggling with and undiagnosed ADHD, where his addictions could be self medicating attempts. I am diagnosed ADHD too in the age of 46 years, but without hyperactivity, rather hypo activity. I have a degree as a veterinarian and am studying again, so I have been studying a lot of literature regarding ADHD. If he has ADHD, I hope he soon realizes it and gets the right medication and the psycho-education to understand and accept ADHD in him and then rethink and restart his life, to change his mindset and his behavior, for his own and his family's sake. Good luck to everybody out there with ADHD as a personality variation. ADHD is not all bad; in balance the positive is e.g. creativity and thinking out of the box

Reply to XhelenX: I think that you are spot on about ADHD diagnosis and here are the reasons why:
- first of all when I watch Charlie Sheen I don't at all get the Impression that he has anything more wrong with him than his brain going on hyperdrive, i.e. more Speed, more Feelings, more reactions, more words, etc. And consequently more and more attemps to somehow justify why that is all OK and using a sense of humour to handle it!
I agree with the fact that this has probably been much worsened in part by him having lived through a tough period in Terms of his negative Feelings about his Show, a lot of failures in his lovelife and as a father, and then the accompagnying extreme lifestyle with substance abuse and what have you. Now to the reasons for which I don't believe this guy is bipolar - even when he is not doing well, he is always "up" so to say. No-one has never throughout his career described him as "down" or "laying low", ie. the down periods of the bipolar phases. He is always "on" 150% and has been since his youth.
However, when I watch him, although I don't Display that Kind of behaviour outwardly, I recognise the functioning of his brain as similar to mine. Let me describe a few main aspects of what it feels like to live with a brain that Displays the full spectrum of ADHD; i.e. hyperactivity, poor Impulse control and Attention deficit:
- intense Feelings
- restlessness (moving, moving, moving, Hands, feet, Position, head is bobbing around to look at what is going on, etc)
- constant anxiousness that builds up an internal emotional pressure
- irritability and Anger tendencies (caused by the never ending overreaction to all external stimulations that cannot be filtered appropriately and the abovementioned constant restless anxiety that wears away at you)
- hypersensitivity to what is Happening around you; what People say, do, facial expressions, etc.
- overthinking EVERYTHING!!
- a craving for pleasure and passionate experiences all the time
- very often high Levels of intelligence and analytical and intuitive skills that gives too much insight into how things are working and makes for uncomfortable clarity on your own behaviour and the behaviour of others (take for example the fact that Charlie in between his rantings, agree 100% with his issues and even talk about himself with absolut insight and clarity. So the capacity for understanding is very good but the constant streem of extreme words and Actions is however (when untreated) unstoppable.
- frequent of cronic insomnia
- thoughts are jumping all over the place in your head like a constant flippergame - Day and night!!
- creativity and problemsolving skills are often very high, but it often takes situations of crises for These skills to be useful to the Person with ADHD since they don't handle day to day Routine and responsibility well.
- ADHD People therefore often takes risks and create Trouble over and over again- there is just TOO MANY EXTREME PRIMITIVE NEEDS that take over the brain on a regular Basis and will drive their behaviour towards the stupid, immature and irresponsible choices.
- they are however most often very kindharted and well intentioned- however the Actions do not follow.
- ADHD People most often self-medicate with stimulating drugs (uppers like as is the case for Charlie Sheen cocaine), tabacco (again Charlie is a big smoker) and alcohol. The stimulating effect of These drugs is almost irresistable to ADHD sufferers since it is the only Thing that ironacilly make them feel calmer and more at peace. Overeating sugary Food can also have this effect since it up the Levels of some hormones that are too low in ADHD Brains to effectively help the rational thinking part of the brain regulate the emotional centre in the brain. As Long as These People are not diagnosed and treated with less damaging stimulating medicine, they will NEED various more destructive stimulants (more damaging for their Body and brain functioning that is) to such an extent that it will be difficult for them not to take These things. However, they are paradoxically NOT really dependant in the same manner as a non ADHD Person would be since their Brains can take SOOO much more stimulants before Feeling the same effect they do not get mentally HOOKED in the same way. But their Body suffers the same damage of the drug use.So when Charlie talks about the fact that normal AA programs and the Terms of being SOBER is not something he can fully relate to and he believes that there is another truth for him in Terms of Managing his Lifestyle he might be on to something. Personally I discovered that every time I went home to Sweden ( I live abroad) I would use Swedish tabacco products called Snus. But not just a Little, more like an extreme amount so that it would be the equivalent of being a very extreme chainsmoker for lets say 2-3 weeks. This would happen about 2-3 times a year. However, the tabacco overuse (thus the oversuse of a stimulant) would make me sleepy and when I stopped from one day to the other I felt no withdrawal Syndroms). However, the damaging effect on my Body would of course be the same as for anyone else. But when my mum nagged me about stop using it because I would become addicted and so on, I started to developed the same Kind of thinking as Charlie about his use of drugs; I knew that she was right that it was dangerous that I would normally become addicted to it. BUT at the same time, the normal description of how becoming addicted works does not seem to match the REAL experience of the ADHD Person. Yes, the strong URGE for stimulants is there, the Person WILL use it all the time BUT the ADHD Person does not have the Impression that they feel that bad if they are not using. It is rather the extremely tiresome everyday experience of speediness, oversensitivity and hyperanxiety that after a few days will push them to seek a relief substance again. Interestingly enough Charlie Sheen has said that he believes in Detox Treatment that gets the shit out of your System but he does not believe in Rehab after having tried both numerous times and has observed what has had an effect on him. I find this fascinating since in my own experience I have never managed to make use of the Support of Very good therapists (psychiatrists, cognitive behaviourial therapy, etc) to Change my life style of overeating, overdrinking, etc. However, the first day I consulted with a ADHD specialist, all the attempts to find out WHY I was leading a life that was so out of control and destructive became obsolete. The way he described the Hormone Balance in a typical ADHD brain, the resulting Feelings and behaviours just blew my mind. It was me!!!! And thereafter, it all became so easy. I think Charlie Sheen has established that he is also not really matching the traditional description of an addict but he has not yet gotten to the root of the Problem - ADHD. Finally, let me just underline the fact that a lot of behaviour, reactions, and communication coming out of a ADHD Person, who is in a bad state, that has messed up over and over again, dissapointed People that are important to them, overconsuming drugs and alcohole for years, probably being more or less sleep deprived for years, eating badly, dehydrated (because of the over use of alcohole) sums up rather well what Charlie Sheen Displays as behaviour - Seemingly completely LOCO!!!
