I've always been a night person and absolutely hate mornings. After upping my dose of Concerta I've noticed a real comedown in the evening at a time when I'd normally be more productive. Slightly annoying as I'm not particularly productive at the best of times! This lead me to wonder if ADHDr's have a propensity either way ?

Definately not a morning person! Without meds, I'm ridiculously sleepy until mid-afternoon, so much so that I struggle to hold a pen!

Mornings were chaotic, screaming, banging, crying hell before my Ritalin, now (when I remember to take them), they are calm, peaceful, in control of myself nearly heaven, no matter what crazy teenage son does to provoke me....

I'm dreaful in the mornings. Tired, bewildered, slow. The meds help a little, but still I can't really get moving until lunchtime. Once I get to the evening, I find I just don't want to go to bed - I've had to force myself to stick to a bedtime recently.
It helps that the meds actually get me working better during the day, and tired once they wear off, but that means that I can't work on any more intellectual hobbies when I get home from work.

That resonates! But I'm also like bobj - take a while to warm up, then there's a sweet spot where I cook on gas for a while. It makes sense, really - stims have a curve of effect - the 'plasma concentration' builds as it gets into your bloodstream, hits 'effective' levels for a while, peaks and the drops off as you eliminate the drug. You're not just 'on' or 'off' meds.

Mornings are the worst time. I don't like speaking or being spoken to. I know i have to do things but want them done with as little noise as possible while my brain wakes up.

There've been times where i've pushed myself to get up really early, and yes, I've functioned pretty well for a couple of hours before say, 8am. In general though, I'm at my best between midnight and 3am. Time to put in a flexible working request?

I find it really hard to get up in the morning, I find I'm only able to get up if I have a reallly good incentive to do it. I don't get tired at night and I easily stay up till 4am. The odd time I've been to bed earlier I still don't find the energy to get up till after 11.

My husband likens my personality to a cat. Really really slow and very grumpy in the mornings until I've had a cup of tea and breakfast, and always easily distractible. Hubby loves teasing me first thing in the morning as apparently I'm like a kitten before it gets its claws - make a lot of grumpy noises but can't actually do anything to stop it.
I'm currently on citalopram for anxiety and depression and was on a nightly dose, however my sleep was often disturbed and I'm much more forgetful and scatty when I've not slept. I did notice for the first few days that I jumped out of bed and had the motivation and alertness to actually get on and do stuff! still really forgetful but actually productive! Now I take it in the morning when I wake up, but I'm more likely to forget to take it if I don't have a drink ready by the bed. I'm not as productive as I was at first but better than before. I have an evening job from 3pm till 11. Although I have no evening life it means I can wake up when I'm ready to, which means I sleep better - no more "if I fall asleep now, i'll get x-hrs sleep" thoughts when I can't! However I need to go to bed more or less straight after I get in. Easier when hubby's home and in bed already. Harder when he's away on placement and I'm tempted by the nintendo DS...

I definitely don't function until I take my meds ... Didn't realise just how much I struggled until starting concerta!

pffffttttt, the voting speaks volumes. Maybe we prefer night owlism due to the fact that there is a lot less noise/distraction to hook onto and we can flow a little better.

maybe it's also because ADD brains take a really long time to adjust the chemistry properly to function well.

PD, can this thread could be moved to the polls board? just so it doesn't fall off the first page of the board and stops getting new votes

Definitely a night owl. If I'm off work for anything over 3/4 days I become nocturnal. Doesn't help that I don't sleep well either!
