Hi all,
A few months back I outlined a problem I have that I'm living abroad in the Czech Republic at the moment. I was diagnosed a few years back and medicated - albeit at a barely effective dose - but I have been without medication here in the Czech Republic.
I would like to see somebody about ADHD when I get back home for the summer. I'll be back for a month. I have decided to see somebody privately because in the timeframe I know I wouldn't get to see anybody through the NHS. I can just about scrape the money together.
Can anybody suggest somebody decent? I am based in the midlands but I'm prepared to travel to see somebody worthwhile. I have ADHD with Asperger's syndrome.
I have made contact with one doctor based in London and am thinking about seeing him as he can see me in the time I'm at home, but if anybody has any recomendations, please let me know.
I have named the doctor here above, but I understand it may be a problem to post anything approaching a review of this doctor(?)
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Hi, I didn't go privately so don't know of anyone, but if you look on the aadduk full website there's a list of psychiatrists there (not sure how many are out of date though), also if you flick around the forum people mention private psychiatrists a lot. Janev recently saw someone in London she thought was good so look at her threads. I don't recall anyone from the midlands - hopefully someone will be able to help.
Good luck x

I am mentioning these names because how else are people meant to find them??
Dr xxxxxxxxxxxx of Harley Clinic in London is excellent. Understanding, informed and gentle. Cost £500 for start to finish analysis to treatment plan. Future sessions to check up on treatment cost 150.
Dr xxxxxxxxx of Warwickshire is, for me, a strong avoid. Didn't seem to know much about ADHD and not very personable. Cost 300 pounds, insists on history (in my case bringing along my mum who I do not have good relations with) regardless of preferences. Review sessions cost £140.

The psych Janev and a couple of other people saw was Dr xxxxx of Chelmford Priory. They got quick appointments and speak very highly of him. The cost of the initial appointment is £250.
Hope that helps.

I think that if my GP ends up being a see you next tuesday about things, I'm going to go this route. Harley St may be expensive, but at least I'll get the answers I need...

if money is an issue (I know - stupid thing to say - when isn't it ) Chelmsford is only 25 min on train from London then you can get a bus to dr xxxxx clinic or cab - was £7, train fare was £16 return still makes it cheaper than Harley st although people on here have said dr xxxxxxxxx is good and does take an interest but so does dr xxxxxxxxxx

Hahah, just saw this. That's true, but I think Dr Humpries looks like a good bet to me -
Actually I have a new plan of attack now. I rang up the ADHD people at the Maudsley, ended up getting put through to the Croyden Mental Health (don't ask) who were loverly and the lady there put me through to the Maudsley properly; I spoke to the bloke there who gave me loads of helpful info about how the process goes and also timings and waitings, and he said that I can get myself referred for treatment with a confirmation.
Now considering I have ADHD I get bored easy, so I called up Dr H and made an appointment - they send you forms to fill out and you have to bring it back with you (guarentee I'll forget, but ah well). The test was this 61 question thing, I got annoyed, cos I started at the back and it was all stupid questions not about ADHD; and then it was all boy-related (aggression/suspension instead of girl-related issues), but I filled it out anyway. Then I googled it, to see how they calculated it! I won't say how in case anyone here ends up doing it and wants to do it blind. Anyway, the cut off is supposedly ** number of points, and I scored 50% above that, so really by his own criteria, I'm already happy with that.
So my plan is ask GP for NHS, if she says no, I have private lined up after, then go back to GP and ask for treatment on NHS now I have diagnosis. Then inform university peoples.
Plaaaaaaaaan

Hi, I have been a patient of Dr xxxxxxxxxx for about 8 years. She s the most supportive and friendly consultant that I have ever met. Over the 8 years, I have met with her many times and received great support and medical advice that has been pertinent to my stable health. I would not hesitate to recommend her.
Regards, Kevin Paterson

+1 from me for Dr xxxxxxxxx. She doesn't promote herself as an ADHD expert but, for the more general depressive disorders which she does, she has helped me enormously over the last three years. She doesn't take any nonsense, but she got to the core of my issues quickly and supportively and has helped me find new joy in life.

Hi,
Was diagnosed back in 2008 by the Mauseley Hospital. Tried meds at the time and it didn't agree with me. Was looking at trying again as it's become impossible so looking at going private. Have been in contact with a Dr xxxxxxxxx, Warrington. As I'm going private and paying, I need to know if they are any good. Anyone had experience of him?
Many thanks for your help.

Hi I am seeking a private specialist in the north west. I live in Blackpool so if anybody can recommend a specialist close by or would do an assessment through skype I would be extremely thankful for the info. I have a refefrral off doc just need to find someone to diagnose. I am a 39 yr old woman so probs would prefer a woman but a man is fine if no women available.

Dr xxxxxxxxxx was not good for my wife. She was very upset with my wife for refusing her medication recommendations (ie seroxat) following awful prior experience. Really undermined my wife’s already fragile confidence. I’m sure that she might work for some people - my experience was extremely poor.

Hi All, I am based in Cambridge so not sure about other clinics, but I was assessed by Dr xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and that was great. He has got also a PhD from Cambridge and he knows a LOT about ADHD, I really think he is a real expert. I am under treatment now and the meds are given by one of the psychiatrists in his team. So far so good, maybe a bit costly but worth every penny imao. Cheers Anthony

Hello all,
I am also looking to get privately diagnosed! I live in Bristol but am willing to travel to London, Birmingham and elsewhere sensible.
I also find it a bit annoying that we are not officially allowed to mention doctors names, as this is important and that's why I'm here - looking for recommendations!
I am looking at Dr xxxxxxxxx after reading the reviews, also the cambridge adhd clinic seems alright!
Share your experiences, please!
Thank you!

It is a bit annoying but the reason we ask that you put the name of the clinic and not of the doctor is to help protect your own privacy and identity.
We keep this forum open to the public so that it's easier for people with ADHD to write and read posts (i.e. people don't have to register or try to remember a password if they don't want to.
But the downside of this, of course, is that posts are open to the public. So if you include a doctor's name with other personal information, despite using an avatar, the risk of being recognised by someone in your neighbourhood may rise.

Thanks for that Roland! I have finally booked an assessment with Clinical Partners. I live in Bristol but will go to Cardiff to see a specialist next week. So far communication with them has been easy and clear. Will write again after my appointment next Thursday (11.10.2018)
