When I first received the letter informing me that the Local Authority have refused to issue my ADHD daughter with a Statement of Educational needs........because I'm appealing against their decision.....I didn't even bother reading the bundle of pathetic supposedly important documents that came with the letter... now....after two.... three..... alright five weeks of total inaction on my part, I've started to put the formal appeal together.... I've just read the document submitted by 1 very uninformed supposed professional brought into school to help naughty daught It says....and I quote... ."X..needs to learn to focus better..."

Sorry for going AWOL......again! Spent 40 days and 40 nights producing grounds for appeal against local education authority....just to get a decent education for my little ADHDer....not so little anymore....big 10.... 14 grounds for appeal, 25 pages long and 19 attachments!?!? Phew! If I win....for the SECOND time .....I'm considering helping other families beat this deeply unfair and discriminatory system......a report from an Educational Psychologist can cost anything from £500-£3,500, then on top of this are the legal fees, which are astronomical, if they don't get legal aid......I reckon I could do it for £500 and win without any professional reports... now just got to sit and wait til either 1. Get a tribunal date or 2. Local authority back down and issue a Statement (of Educational Needs) for my daughter, which will give her certain accommodations like extra time and interventions like 1:1 tuition and I'll be able to choose her secondary school and she'll get priority....recently looked round a local one, mainstream but with only 400 pupils, which is half to a third the size of your normal secondary school, so class sizes are just 15 and a quarter of the children have special needs, so at last she'll have teachers who understand....and get a better education than she's getting now....being seriously failed, despite high IQ gone back a level in reading!

I am just sooooooooo delighted! Just found out that my 10 year old daughter got our first choice Secondary School!?! Yippeeeeee! It's a mainstream school, but it only has 400 pupils, which is unheard of....a quarter of the pupils have SEN so the staff must be more clued up than most....AND they specialise in Performing Arts, which is her strong point..... (can't figure out why I already know, it was meant to be 6 pm tonight, and you had to login to find out....instead, I received a direct email from council.....anywhoo.....woo hoo!) at least that's one battle out the way...
